new usable size. With the precision to remove as little as 1mm from the width of a reel, or dividing the web into multiples, the MRD can handle all reel sizes up to 4750mm wide, and 6500kgs in weight.

“We are able to transform what would normally be traded as waste material into resalable prime material, thus putting otherwise redundant stock back into the marketplace. This circular economy forms a key part of the Colombier Group of companies strategy and vision,” said Mr Langworthy.

LARGE FORMAT REWINDING

Colombier UK has been converting reels for over 30 years and prides itself in rewinding over 7,500 tonnes of material each year. Like its narrow web/coiling application, the large format rewinder can produce multiple webs, but from an input width of up to 2530mm and 1500mm diameter.

Primarily used for packaging grade and graphic white material, the rewinder is capable of reducing the width of a reel, producing multiple webs out of one input, reducing diameter of input material, changing core size, eliminating mill faults such as bursts, creasing, unmade joins and using an innovative chuck system Colombier UK can also rewind crushed core reels onto new cores.

“We find in the packaging industry especially, paper mills are unwilling or unable to produce webs down to diameters small enough for customers to handle, or onto the correct core size required for their machines. Our rewinder is well-versed in reducing diameters and changing core sizes to meet customer requirements,” Mr Langworthy added.

SHEET CUTTING

Hosting a Strachen Henshaw sheet cutter, Colombier UK is fully equipped to handle all your sheeting requirements from graphic white papers, newsprint, packaging grade papers, translucent fine papers, food grade specialty papers, and paper used in the pharmaceutical industry. With 6x reel back stands, and a max cutting width of 1380mm, Colombier is able

to sheet to a huge variety of sizes and palletise as per customer requirements. “We currently sheet product used for tray liners in the most popular fast food restaurants, as well as book and magazine publication, food packaging production and specialist pharmaceutical products,” Mr Langworthy said.

FSC

After four months of preparation, Colombier UK passed the FSC audit in November 2021. With an ever-growing focus on the preservation of the world’s natural resources and a move to a more cyclical model of packaging – it was clear that this was a necessary step to take. As a result, we are now able to offer FSC certified recycled packaging grades on request.

Consumers have grown to expect that the packaging they receive comes from sustainable sources, originating from well- managed forests. We are but one link in this chain between forest and end users, but it is vital that we do our part in ensuring that our material comes from responsible sources where possible.

Colombier’s mission is to innovate through product exploration and technology, recyclable and biodegradable packaging that replaces plastic, and to reduce waste in support of a circular industrial economy through sustainability and ecological developments.
