Colombier good reel suitable for sale”.
Over the last 15 years of having the MRD, Colombier UK has dealt with every scenario, from entire water fl ooded warehouses caused by damaged fi re sprinkler heads, or rain water ingress, through to fi re damaged stock having been doused down to extinguish fl ames. No matter the context, Colombier UK are often able to produce a salvaged product, in a sellable condition for its customers.
Historically the MRD has been a mainstay for the large Gravure printers in the UK whom have often utilised its large web capacity, and Colombier UK’s specialist clamp trucks to cut down reels often in excess of 4500mm in size, and over 6,000kg in weight.
“Having a machine capable of handling such large format reels has always allowed us to service important gravure customers through the UK and Europe,” said Mr Langworthy. However, the MRD is such a versatile machine, it can also handle reels down to 450mm in width, and 650mm in diameter.
Flexibility is a fundamental part of Colombier UK’s ethos around its conversion services, and the MRD encompasses every aspect of that being able to handle any GSM, nearly any substrate, and practically any size that its customers can off er. Water damage is not the only issue where the MRD might benefi t Colombier UK’s customers. With its unique cutting method, the machine is ideal for solving a magnitude of issues such as: • Imbedded objects in the ends of reels • Pagination changes meaning size changes to existing stock • Dirty / scruff y ends of reels • Scuff damage • Protruding cores • Incorrect reel stencilling
• Isolated Mill faults such as creasing / coating faults
However, alongside all its amazing capabilities, the MRD has one last trick up its sleeve. It is mobile! “The MRD can literally fold itself down, we attach wheels, and tow it up onto the back of a standard low-loader trailer,” Mr Langworthy explained.
“Once strapped down and secured, the MRD can be taken anywhere accessible by road, set up in a customer’s warehouse or production factory, and start cutting down reels on the customers premises.”
Needing only a 10mx10m area, and 3-phase power supply (either by customer site mains, or hired generator) the MRD can be right at the heart of the solution, cutting reels to any size determined by the customer, and allowing them to retain the waste for recycling.
“Across Europe we have had these machines situated in some of the largest Paper Mills
for months at a time. As reels have come off the paper making machine with faults, they are transferred to the MRD, and cut down immediately so the customer has no downtime, and has usable stock as quickly as possible,” Mr Langworthy said.
Converting over 20,000 tonnes of reels at its Sittingbourne site annually, and with customers including two of the largest packaging mills in the world, Colombier UK are at the forefront of innovation and excellence for conversion services in the UK and Europe.
