IndustryNews BRAMLAGE SPAIN UNDERLINES ITS
SUSTAINABILITY CREDENTIALS RPC Envases Madrid has become the first supplier to L’Oréal Europe to produce bottles incorporating post consumer recycled (PCR) HDPE polymer. Bottles are now being produced for the Redken and Biolage professional haircare brands containing 50 per cent
recycled HDPE supplied by BIFFA. On an annual basis, this represents a switch of around 50 tonnes from virgin to recycled material. L’Oréal has a strong commitment to the use of recycled material and these bottles provide the first example of what is likely to be a significant continuing trend. At the same time, RPC Zeller Plastik Barcelona has just been
appointed to produce the closure for the Redken bottle with a strong commitment to manufacture the closure using recycled polymer. “These latest developments underline the importance RPC Bramlage Spain attaches to the devising of sustainable packaging solutions,” comments Pierre Bougrain, general manager.
New Era Converting incorporates Vetaphone technology
New Era Converting of Paterson NJ, has
given an unqualified commendation to Danish pioneers Vetaphone for the seamless integration of their corona technology into the company’s bespoke range of coating and laminating lines. Speaking for New Era, President Bob
Pasquale stated: “Our business is very specialised, with customers placing high emphasis on quality and reliability, while at the same time looking for turnkey solutions. In these circumstances it is vital that the integrity of our sub suppliers’ technology matches that of our own products. In Vetaphone we have found an excellent synergy that dovetails with our own rigorous quality control.” New Era manufactures at its 48,000sqft facility in New Jersey and sells to a range of blue-chip customers around the world. Each machine is purpose built for specific products that include the converting of paper, film, foil, fabric, foam, plastic, and flexible glass products – in fact, ‘any substrate on a roll’, according to Pasquale. “We are also involved with clean room, dark room, and explosion proof environments, and specialise in custom applications,” he added.
LabCo can be tested in India Craig & Parsons installs Mark Andy Digital One
Kroenert, manufacturer of customised coating and laminating systems, delivered a multifunctional coating system for research and test purposes to the Michelman Innovation Centre for Coatings (MICC) in Mumbai, India - a dedicated space for rapid prototyping of new packaging structures. The LabCo coating system is designed as two head coating line that can be used for different coating and laminating applications with convection drying and UV curing. One of the key applications is the functionalisation of polymer films for the packaging industry. Together with the Michelman product solutions this Kroenert line can be used for coating tests and product developments. The modular design of the system allows a very flexible handling. In addition to gravure and smooth roller applications for direct and indirect mode, it can also be used for reverse and forward coating processes. The substrates can either be coated on one side or simultaneously on both sides. With this, many new trends of the packaging film market can be realised. LabCo line can be used for laboratory, research and
development operations, meeting scalable results that can be transferred directly to systems such as RECO.
Craig & Parsons has installed a Mark Andy Digital One press at its plant in Folkestone, Kent, to handle short run work for its extensive portfolio of well-known high street names. The Digital One joins a bank of six narrow web flexo presses that includes a Mark Andy 2200 UV-flexo press that was itself responsible for bringing four-colour work in-house. The result is a high quality label printing and manufacturing business that is bespoke to the requirement, budget and timescale of each customer, and the latest investment in digital print technology highlights
the company’s determination to stay ahead of its competitors. The new Mark Andy Digital One will bring further diversification to short run work. With most of
the UK’s leading supermarket retailers and office suppliers among its indirect customers, Craig & Parsons was looking for technology that offered flexible production capability with high-end quality. However, there was little on the market that met the company’s criteria for cost-effective production, until a visit to Labelexpo in Brussels. Installed in January, the Digital One has already passed 30,000 linear metres, and Craig & Parsons is finding it a useful tool for attracting short run process work, where its capacity for handling multiple versions of the same label is proving very cost-effective. Proud of its record of funding all investment from company resources, Craig & Parsons is working towards BRC accreditation for its 12,000sq/ft facility and 21 staff. The Digital One was part of a £350,000 investment that included future-proofing the site for expansion. The past year has seen the company add six new staff to its single shift operation, which, with the new press, has shortened many delivery times to ‘same-day.’
