The members of the British Coatings

Federation’s celebrate its 25th anniversary On July 4, the BCF celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Society of British Printing Ink Manufacturers joining forces with the Paintmakers Association to form the British Coatings Federation in July 1993. The wallcoverings sector joined BCF in 2005. The celebration coincided with the recent opening of the BCF’s new home in Coventry ‘Spectra House’, a dedicated building with its own meeting rooms and excellent transport links at the heart of the country. The celebration was held during a BCF Printing Ink Technical Committee meeting, attended by over 20 printing ink members. The milestone was marked with the unveiling of a ceremonial plaque and an anniversary cake. CEO of the BCF Tom Bowtell said: “Printing inks are a very important sector to

the BCF, making up over 20 per cent of the membership. We continue to campaign on key issues for printing ink members such as achieving a positive Brexit outcome for industry and promoting best practice when using printing inks, especially when related to food packaging.”

ROMPRIX WINS LABEL AWARD

AT PACK EXPO ROMANIA Husband and wife team Cristian and Octavia Dobrota celebrated picking up the ‘Label of the Year 2018’ trophy at the recent Pack Expo in Romania, and described winning as a just reward for the ongoing investment in people and technology at its plant in Pantelimon, near Bucharest. From a relatively humble beginning in

2000, producing pricing labels on second hand flexo machines, Romprix has grown to become one of Romania’s leading label converters, with a staff of 200 and annual sales in excess of €16m. Today, it produces a wide variety of labels and tags, and low to medium volume packaging in full colour with latest Bobst flexo and HP digital technology. Capable of handling a range of substrates, with specialised adhesives for

any type of application on 10-micron foil to 350-micron carton board, Romprix offers added-value finishing for different applications including cold and hot foil, embossing, varnishing, laminating, screen printing, adhesive printing (glue killed) and peel/reseal labels, as well as double sided full colour printing, serial registration, numbering, engraving and laser cutting. Romprix can also produce multi-layer labels, shrink sleeves, in-mould labels and aluminium lids. With such a diverse portfolio of products on offer, the company requires a

MP visits UK’s largest tape and label core manufacturer

JPT are proud to announce their latest expansion phase: an 800 square meter warehouse equipped with a state-of-the-art drying facility. To open the new facilities, the right honourable Nigel Adams, lord commissioner of the treasury, and MP for Selby and Ainsty, paid a visit to meet the staff and management of the local business. During his visit, employees had an opportunity to meet with Adams

and provide him with a site tour; providing an insider view of the products and processes at the new facility. He was also lucky enough to see the first production run of the recently developed special-purpose cardboard tube. Using recycled materials, this product ticks all boxes in JPT’s commitment toward innovation that is both environmentally friendly and cost-effective for its customers. JPT took the opportunity to discuss important issues with Adams, such as employment and green initiatives. Adams was very interested in how Just Paper Tubes maintained a ‘green’ approach in the area of production and its initiatives to reduce its own environmental impact and lower its carbon footprint. Harry Coates, director at Just Paper Tubes, showed Adams the progress being made using biomass and solar energy to realise this goal.
