Adhesive Applications

Top marks to Herma standard self-adhesives E

pson has recently performed extensive tests with the ColorWorks C7500 and

C7500G, two water-based inkjet colour label printers. Standard self- adhesive materials from HERMA achieve very good print results on these industrial colour label printing systems. More choice for label users: this combination allows for reliable, fast, and high- quality printing and individualisation of blank labels or pre-printed labels off the roll – even for very small runs. Very good colour print quality with outstanding efficiency: those were the results of comprehensive tests with Herma standard self-adhesive materials on the Epson ColorWorks C7500 and C7500G label printers. “Our product HERMAwhite (grade 601) was given very good marks, even though the white, machine-finished label paper is considered an absolute standard. The label material was able to instantly absorb the water-based ink – the print image is excellent thanks to

optimal ink adhesion,” comments Timo Kerilahti, of the technical service in Herma’s Self-adhesive Materials Division. Epson’s verdict carries weight and for decades, the company has been one of the world’s innovation drivers in the field of inkjet solutions. This opens up unparalleled choices for label users. Nikos Vardakastanis, product manager Prographics at Epson, adds: “Our versatile inkjet colour label printers put an end to typical restrictions that go along with thermal transfer printing. Combined with Herma self-adhesive materials, for instance, users can now print high-quality, individual colour labels, tickets, and price tags as required and in-house. Moreover, they can decide what labels they need at what time and in which quantity. Storage of pre-printed tickets, delays caused by missing labels, and unnecessarily rejected labels are therefore now a thing of the past. The tests that we recently performed with Herma materials confirm their high performance with Epson’s inkjet colour label printers for these purposes.”

New solvent-less white adhesive by Uflex gives convertors a reason to cheer

PU adhesive FLEXBON 901A/901W that is expected to enable laminators and brand owners to reduce their application cost and substantially enhance their performance by partially replacing white inks, and meet consumer demands. The Chemicals Business of Uflex is a leading provider of adhesives, printing inks and coatings for a wide range of flexible packaging applications. This solvent-less white adhesive works well on existing solvent-less lamination machines and will reduce the requirement of white ink coating on printed substrates, thereby giving substantial savings to converters. This product offers excellent opacity and wettability on metallised substrates. Other key features include good adhesion; suitability for low temperature applications from 35 to 45°C; and the ability to provide fast decay of primary aromatic amine. Talking about the new product, Mr. Rajesh Bhasin, joint president, Uflex Chemicals says: “This innovative and valued development substantially enhances our solvent-less adhesive portfolio. Given the myriad benefits that this adhesive brings for the convertors, we will market it globally. The demand is encouraging already.”

ackaging materials and solution company Uflex has launched a general- to-medium performance 2K solvent-less

ColorWorks C7500 and C7500G Two further Herma paper materials were

also tested on the Epson printers ColorWorks C7500 and C7500G - HERMAinkprint (grade 137) and HERMAinkprint gloss (grade 211). Moreover, the film HERMAinkprint PP (grade 821) also proved suited for use with these industrial colour label printing systems. HERMAinkprint PP (grade 821) is not only seawater-resistant according to BS 5609 (section 2) – the Herma adhesive 63B, which is used with it by default is also resistant, against various chemicals. Combined with the Epson printers, the Herma self-adhesive materials are therefore qualified for quickly creating a wide range of high-quality labels, such as packaging labels, EU energy labels, or caution labels according to the CLP/GHS directive.

NEW STANDARDS FOR INDUSTRIAL PRINTING Epsons’s ColorWorks C7500 series features the new PrecisionCore print head, which achieves especially reliable and high-quality print results. Its unique nozzle verification technology and dot substitution helps prevent misprints for consistent printouts. With print speeds of up to 300mm/second, labels can now be printed in full colour, at the same speed as some standard thermal monochrome printers. www.herma-material.com
