reif has launched a new and pioneering innovation to its butterfly valve, for deployment
Greif’s butterfly valve already affords
customers a number of key benefits over other leading manufacturers. With a polyethylene based product interface it is universally compatible for use with both chemical and food products. Additionally, from an operative’s perspective, it is very easily and quickly opened by hand and crucially for the environment, it is 100 per cent recyclable. Luca Bettoni, Greif EMEA IBC and plastic
product manager, explains: “We continue to invest in our GCUBE IBC solutions and this new branded butterfly valve seal is yet another significant market development. We are the first company to introduce a branded aluminum foil seal to its IBC valves giving customers total confidence in the integrity of the seal and most importantly the contents of the container at its end destination. Both the branded foil and safety screw are removable by hand and the technology used means there will be no foil residuals left on the valve outlet thus eliminating the risk of contamination. With this new valve we combine safety with the

FILM ROLLED OUT ACROSS HUGGIES BABY WIPES RANGE
speciality co-extruded film developed by leading UK flexible packaging manufacturer, Skymark, is now being used across Kimberly-Clark’s Huggies Baby Wipes range. The tri-layer co-extruded film increases opacity and eliminates visibility of the pack contents while maintaining a white aesthetic appearance.
Paul Neath, director of
Skymark, says: “By working with Kimberly-Clark, we have been able to develop and incorporate new elements to the packaging of Huggies Baby Wipes. The specialised co-extruded film helps to create shelf stand-out and consistency across the Huggies range, whilst offering consumers a differentiated packaging solution that we’re really proud of.” The innovative packaging
solution has been integrated across Huggies Baby Wipes multi-bags, including the new Extra Care range, as well as the standard packs of Pure, Natural Care and Soft Skin. Neath continues: “Designing this outer bag posed some difficulties due to the blue hue of the film. Although it’s a white film, it has a slight colouration. We had to ensure was representative of the laminate pack inside. Following several trials and tweaks to the lay down of the ink, we matched the brief set by Kimberly-Clark to maintain the high quality print demanded by Huggies Baby Wipes. We’ve achieved exactly what we set out to do in terms of the new film technology." Skymark is the UK’s leading independent manufacturer and supplier of high quality embossed, plain
and printed flexible films. For 30 years, the company has delivered excellence in product and service to a wide variety of market sectors including food & drink, hygiene & medical, household and personal care.

EU foil deliveries power ahead
T
he third quarter of 2018 saw demand for Europe’s aluminium foil surge to record levels, and well
ahead of the same period in 2017. This was principally led by a continued
spectacular performance in overseas markets. Deliveries in Q3 reached 237,700 tonnes, an increase of 6.4 per cent on the same period of 2017. Domestic demand has remained solid throughout 2018 and continued to reflect (+0.5 per cent) a steady recovery in consumption. Remarking on the figures Guido
Aufdemkamp, executive director of EAFA says, “These good results are based on a unique combination of improved domestic demand and particularly high demand from outside Europe. The international trade flows of aluminium foil have been changed significantly due to the trade actions in the USA and elsewhere. These unusual circumstances may not continue in the long term however.” “While the European sector remains satisfied with the current situation, it is very cautious about the effects of a volatile global political situation, which is impacting directly on the industry at present. But we remain confident that the current year will set another record for deliveries from European foil rollers,” he adds.
