Croatian eco plant officially opened

coCortec, manufacturer of environmentally friendly, VpCI anticorrosion packaging materials has opened another plant in Croatia. The grand plant opening and ribbon cutting ceremony took place in Beli Manastir, Croatian town located in the eastern part of the country where the old plant is also located. Numerous guests as well as members of the media and local government including the Mayor of Beli Manastir were present. CEO of Cortec Corporation, Boris Miksic, cut the ribbon of the new plant, together with his mother Nina. Along with new offices, brand new 2000 m2 facility also includes state-of-the-art extrusion line E5. With this latest purchase, the plant's production capacity is furtherly increased. Some of the E5 extrusion line features are: 6.2m wide film, bags on roll and perforated sheets. ecocortec.hr/en

aerch Plast UK, manufacturer of recycled plastic packaging for the food industry, has launched its 100 per cent recycled PET material into their


Food to Go product range. From 1 January 2019, Faerch will be able to offer a material which is made


from 100 per cent recycled PET, thereby reducing the need to use virgin materials. The company recently acquired the 4PET Group, and have now succeeded in truly closing the loop on PET trays. Faerch has become an integrated recycler of post consumer food trays, which is great news for customers,


consumers and society as a whole. Mark Tollman, sales director of Faerch Plast UK & Ireland adds: “We see this


as a great innovation for our customers and the environment, as we continue to develop sustainable packaging. This innovation is a further commitment to the UK Plastics Pact, which we are proud to be a founding member of”. Faerch Plast’s Ely plant is a state of the art manufacturing operation

instead of fossil fuels; a bio-based fuel source that significantly reduces the CO2 output in the Jimmy’s production chain and, doesn’t require the high quantities of water to grow such as other alternatives like soy. The new caps will perform in exactly the same way as the original in


terms of strength and weight, but the CO2 output will be 50% less than that used to make the brand’s original plastic cap. This combined with the renewable paper-based carton, means their packaging is now made from 54 per cent plant-based materials. The bio-based cap is part of a wider move from Jimmy’s Iced Coffee to


improve sustainability of their packaging and comes shortly after the company made the commitment to use single origin coffee beans from Columbia’s Huila Coffee Region. Single source Arabica coffee, from Rainforest Alliance certified farms, allows for traceability, meaning taste and quality is guaranteed as is the well-being of the communities which produce it. Co-founder Jim Cregan said: “It’s really important our packaging is as sustainable as possible. We’re working hard to become plastic free, so bringing in bio-based caps was the natural next step. To now have a carton that’s made predominantly from plants is very cool and reduces our environmental footprint even further. We know there’s a lot more to be done but using caps made from a renewable sugar cane source is a strong start and something we’re stoked about.” The brand’s colourful packaging and cup-holder-friendly carton size has


proved a welcome addition to the convenience market in recent years, already stocking in the grab-and-go sections of Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose among others. To date Jimmy’s Iced Coffee is stocked in over 4000 stores nationwide.
