Event Preview Packaging Innovations and Empack

2022 set to reunite packaging Packaging Innovations and Empack 2022, the industry’s premier packaging event returns to Birmingham on 25 and 26 May, bringing together the entire packaging community.

V

isitors can use the event to connect with like-minded professionals, do business in person, and take advantage of an industry- leading seminar programme, designed to tackle the most pressing topics.

EXHIBITOR INNOVATIONS AND PRODUCTS Suppliers from across the packing, personal care, household, pharmaceutical and chemical, food and beverage, household, and label and print sectors will display their latest products live on the event floor.

Excelerate will display its unique perforated stretch product - ‘Flow’ film. The solution provides an aerated wrap for light to medium pallets, using a minimal amount of plastic to reduce its carbon footprint. The aeration allows its contents to ‘breathe’ during transport, by reducing moisture and condensation levels. The wrap can be used to transport a range of items, including those in the horticultural industry.

Jointak UK will demonstrate its CertiEye technology, a solution to ensure brand security and combat counterfeiting. The technology identifies counterfeit products throughout the supply chain via a free mobile application. By reporting the location of the scans, the technology provides immediate visibility of problems to the user.

Martek Industries will highlight its range of printers - the Bentsai B80 and B85 handheld inkjet. They combine high-definition printing and 100mm wide format design to allow portable printing of text, barcodes, 2D codes, and detailed graphics onto porous and non-porous surfaces.

The range offers a viable alternative to applying labels to outer case cartons and shrink-wrapped packs for small and medium sized operations. High-definition text can be printed directly onto the product, greatly reducing the haulage carbon associated with the transportation of label stock through several stages of manufacturing. The Label Makers will promote its continuing developments and innovations in label, print and finishing, including a range of available sustainable options. On stand will be examples of its award-winning work, including its Copeland Smugglers Reserve Rum, which won Label of the Year at UK Packaging Awards 2021. Consumables Manufacturing will display its Co-Packing controlled dose sachets. The sachets deliver a predetermined volume of liquid with one hand movement. The sachets can be used to house and dispense a range of consumer goods, including seasonings, condiments, drinks, spreads, and creams. The product does not disperse any residue, with up to 98% of contents used without spillage, and is recyclable. The business also has a commitment to sustainability, as the next generation of sachets will be 100% biodegradable.

EVENT FEATURES

The event will also feature an expert-led seminar programme, with established industry names joining to share their views on a plethora of issues affecting the packaging community. The Empack Stage will focus on the manufacturing, processing, and logistics sectors, featuring a selection of sessions covering robotics, e-fulfilment, energy efficiency, and digitising the

supply chain. Meanwhile, The Ecopack Stage and The Innovation and Design Stage will highlight the latest developments in packaging design and technology. Speakers will lead discussions on a range of ‘green’ issues, including how to balance sustainability with external influence, the latest trends in eco-friendly design, and how to deal with the problem of waste.

The Ecopack Stage will host a sustainable packaging initiative across both days; The Ecopack Challenge, a Dragon’s Den-style competition, making a strong return with its refined eligibility criteria and an expert panel of judges including Ocado and Pret A Manger. Meanwhile, The Big Debate, one of the event’s headline sessions, will tackle the latest in packaging regulations, amongst other external driving forces. Elsewhere, 12 exhibitors will compete for the title of ‘Most Innovative Pack’, as the Innovation Showcase returns. This interactive area of the event allows visitors to get up close to some of the most innovative packaging on the market and vote for their favourite, with the winner being crowned live on the event floor. Renan Joel, Easyfairs’ Divisional Director, concludes: “This year’s NEC event sees an incredible variety of innovation across each industry sector. We can’t wait to connect visitors with the suppliers they need to fulfil their packaging dreams. Alongside the event floor, our seminar programme will provide a range of invaluable advice for our guests to take away with them. We can’t wait for the event to begin!”
