Fighting for balanced and supportive regulatory policies for vending

T

he EVA is in regular contact with policy makers

in the EU Commission, European Parliament and the Member States in the Council to outline the industry position on the key dossiers impacting vending. Even though we are actively working on behalf of our members on more than dozen legislative proposals currently - on everything from energy 

is abundantly clear that a tailored approach for our sector is almost always the best approach While vending is not always, nor even often, the primary focus

There are also many technical and operational constraints that must be addressed. Some elements are key in our view for a supportive legislative

environment, including regulatory predictability, proportionality, harmonisation and enforcement.  and clarity to adapt to new rules, especially in areas such as sustainability, packaging and accessibility. Policies must consider the long lifespan and modularity of vending machines. An overly rigid or accelerated transition risks undermining the economic viability of the business model. Fragmentation of national requirements across the EU — including recent interpretations of accessibility rules or recycling schemes — creates confusion, administrative burdens, and competitive imbalances, particularly for SMEs operating across borders. Finally the enforcement of existing legislation must be

strengthened, particularly with regards to imported products and machines. Non-European competitors must be held to the same standards as EU-based manufacturers, especially   quality, transparency, sustainability, and the competitiveness of the  key Commission priority.
