Burts Chips potatoes gets the stamp of approval from Red Tractor

Plymouth-based Burts Chips has been awarded the Red Tractor stamp of approval for being the first licensed crisps manufacturer to use

accredited British potatoes which are farmed responsibly, processed and packed in the UK. With 67% of UK shoppers

now recognising the Red Tractor logo, the crisp producer wants to heighten awareness of the origin and quality of its produce. Simon Knight, sales and

marketing director of Burts Chips, said: “Consumers are

increasingly discerning when it comes to snacking, and this is driving the premiumisation of the sector. This means the use of high quality British ingredients is increasingly important, as is the process of preparation as consumers look for responsibly farmed and sourced products with artisan appeal. “With the increased focus on traceability and top class

ingredients, products such as Burts Chips with British and regional provenance have come to the forefront. Driven by an increasingly globalised market, it continues to be a strong selling point for our brand.” The first NPD to carry the stamp of approval will be: Burts

Smoked Crispy Bacon and limited-edition Burts Fish ‘N’ Chips. Both products will continue to use ingredients with strong South West credentials to reflect their Devonshire heritage. The Red Tractor logo appeared on Burts Chips’ 40g packs in July and 150g packs from September 2017.

Metcalfe’s launches salted caramel popcorn and extends

new look across the range Salted caramel is the newest flavour to be added to Metcalfe’s range of skinny popcorn. The new flavour is being launched

in sharing and impulse packs and capitalises on the popular sweet and savoury trend, but with 30% less saturated fat then typical salted caramel popcorn on the market. Also, the updated packaging

design, which was introduced at the end of last year on Metcalfe’s skinny popcorn, will be rolled out across the extended Metcalfe’s range of popcorn crisps, popcorn thins and ricecakes. The new creative combines bold

colour schemes, with simplified layouts and messaging, which appeals to a broad customer base. Andy Verney, head of impulse, said: “Recent trends indicate a rise

in consumer demand for sweet and savoury flavours and lighter, better-for-you snacks so we’re excited about salted caramel – a product that ticks both boxes. We’re also pleased to extend the updated packaging design across the range which provides much more impact and successfully brings Metcalfe’s lighter brand personality to life.”

EVEX 2017 registration website launched

Registration has now opened for EVEX 2017, which will be held on November 23 and 24 in Rome, Italy. The European Vending Experience aims to once again bring together all sectors of the

vending and office coffee services industry, offering participants a range of unique networking opportunities, cultural activities, an Operators’ Forum and a commercial exhibition. EVEX 2017, incorporating the European Vending Association (EVA) AGM, is organised

this year in collaboration with the Italian Vending Association (CONFIDA), with the key venue being the Radisson Blu Hotel. The EVA Annual General Assembly Meeting itself will be held on November 23 along with two thematic conferences (live

interpretation will be provided), cultural activities and a gala dinner during which various EVEX 2017 awards will be presented. An exciting new development for 2017 will be the Operators’ Forum on November 24. The objectives of this discussion forum are to

create a bond between entrepreneurs from all over Europe, hold an exchange about mutual challenges, and indeed consider some best practices. A wide range of topics will be debated, including healthier vending initiatives, payment options and others. The EVA and CONFIDA have created a dedicated website to provide information about the event and allow participants to register.
