onsumers are seeking functional and high-performing SDAs that are durable and easy to use. They prioritise attractive designs that fi t their home decor and energy-effi cient appliances that promote sustainability. Safety features, value for money, and

reliable customer support are also important considerations. Increasingly, consumers show interest in smart and connected features for convenience and customisation. Vijay Bhardwaj, marketing director at Beko,

says: “Innovation is vital in the SDA market as it drives the development of advanced features, enhances competitiveness, and meets evolving consumer needs. “It fosters energy efficiency and sustainability, enables the creation of smart and connected appliances, improves the user experience, ensures safety and reliability, and fuels market growth and expansion.” During the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been a significant shift in consumer behaviour, especially towards certain sectors of the SDA market. With people spending more time at home, there has been an increase in demand for appliances that help them recreate experiences they were unable to enjoy outside. cost-of-living, consumer spending is likely to decrease in the coming months. As the pandemic continues to aff ect the economy, people are becoming more cautious about their spending.

Graeme Rodger, category manager at STRIX, said that energy effi ciency and convenience are the key drivers in terms of both design and functionality in the SDA sector.

“The majority of our new products under our LAICA and Aqua Optima brands this year, and moving into 2023, are focussed around consumer concerns over energy usage,” Mr Rodger said. “For example, with our LAICA Dual Flow 2-in-1

kettle, a product that boils only the exact water that you need, consumers can really take control of both their water and energy costs – overboiling a kettle wastes £2 million a day in UK alone.”
