contents A look to the future

As 2018 draws to a close, it is hard to avoid the feeling that it has been a fairly seismic one for the industry.

From the decision from the owners of Wyevale Garden Centres to sell off its portfolio, to significant supplier businesses suffering administration and acquisition, and of course the fun and games of ongoing Brexit negotiations, it has a been a time of turbulence. With change comes opportunity, and the industry has maintained momentum with admirable aplomb. However much things change, they stay the same. People still love to

garden. People still love visiting garden centres. The importance of the natural world in an increasingly urban environment cannot be overstated, and gardening can provide an essential access point to improved health and wellbeing. While there are still plenty of unknowns and pressures to overcome, these factors will continue.

As such, it should be with enthusiasm that everyone in the industry looks to the future. Whatever the coming months and years throw at the industry, I am sure that the energy, professionalism and ideas of the best and brightest will continue to drive innovation and improvement. I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy, and profitable, 2019.
