decorative garden products Design, innovation and inspiration

Providing instant impact and reflecting a gardener’s personality, decorative garden products can be a useful tool in building inspiring in-store displays

F

or a consumer base who are used to quick answers and the speedy results demonstrated by garden makeover programs, products which can provide an instant impact in the garden are increasingly appealing.

Decorative garden products can be purely aesthetic, or can be design twists on products most gardeners will use. Pots and planters supplier Woodlodge has

aimed to bring the beauty of nature to the fore with its recent launch of a William Morris collection. Originally unveiled at Glee earlier this year, Woodlodge’s latest range of planters is inspired by the 19th century’s most celebrated designer, and will add a Victorian flourish to any outdoor space.

Inspired by nature and William Morris’ Willow Bough floral design, the collection offers elegant but contemporary ceramic containers with a high-quality finish. Offered in earthy green, blue, grey and taupe hues, the collection is available in an array of sizes ranging from 16cm to 40cm diameter, perfect for plants of all shapes and sizes. The new range is in collaboration with the

William Morris Gallery, with every purchase helping to support events, exhibitions and educational projects to celebrate the collection and the life and continuing influence of his work. Woodlodge director Michael Wooldridge commented: “We are delighted to add the iconic designs of William Morris to the Woodlodge collection. Renowned for his outstanding decorative work, William Morris emphasised craftsmanship and attention to every detail, making it the perfect fit for our latest range. The response from retailers so far has been positive and we look forward to seeing it stocked in stores, as well as in gardens across the country.”

Garden statuary, from suppliers such as Creekwood Garden & Gift, can provide an instant focal point for any garden

The new Woodlodge William Morris range is inspired by the 19th century designer, providing decorative products with a practical use

The William Morris Collection has an RRP

ranging from £7.99 to £34.99, dependant on sizes. Stewart Garden has also unveiled new planter ranges with decorative elements. Amongst the new offerings are the Beton Planters, all-new for the season and available in garden centres from February 2019. The Beton range ties in with the consumer design trend of contemporary minimalism, perfectly capturing the aesthetic of a modern concrete texture, Stewart Garden notes. Their lightweight construction means they are easier to move around the garden, in comparison to a traditional concrete or ceramic alternative. This family of decorative planters come in square and round styles, each in two sizes, as well as two colour variants, light grey and dark grey. The company also launched the Sequoia planters, which have been available from October 2018.

The Sequoia planters feature DUOTECH technology, a textured surface that imitates natural wood grain, while their resin construction, with extra strength double walled panels, adds robustness and durability, Stewart Gardens adds. This range comes flat-packed for simple

assembly, and are fully customisable thanks to their paintable DUOTECH walls. Wheels lend these planters easy movement around the garden, and a built-in irrigation system with water-level indicator makes them highly practical. Also available from February 2019 are the Taper and Sahara ranges. The Taper range is practical, versatile and ideal for use in the garden, patio, or balcony.

With the appearance of wood, this range comes in three sizes, low, square and tall, with a choice of two colours; anthracite and whiskey brown.

The striking Sahara planters come with a surface texture that seeks to imitate stratified rock, taking inspiration from the arid aesthetic of rugged desert landscapes.

Available in two sizes, these planters are available in three colour options; limestone, clay and dark brown.

For customers looking for instant focal points, supplier Creekwood Garden & Gift specialises in solar, wall décor, wind sculptures and animal/bird statuary.

The company supplies ornaments including a range of birds, such as a large peacock statue, which the company believes makes the perfect addition to any style or size of garden. With a strong powder coated metal, the bird sculpture has a hard wearing finish which is resistant to wearing and scratches. Whether it is cold, windy or raining, this Peacock statue will be kept in place with the 6in ground stake which is supplied along with it, helping to keep it stuck securely in the ground.

The company describes the statuary as the perfect statement piece, allowing a gardener to liven up their garden with a bird figurine’s beautiful feather details and rustic colours, making an outdoor space instantly eye- catching to all of their guests.

By setting up engaging displays to showcase some of the products available to gardeners, garden centres can continue to enjoy strong sales of decorative garden products.
