Men’s Health Awareness Month N

ovember is Men’s Health Awareness Month, which focuses on raising awareness of men’s cancer and other health issues.

Stephen worked for an energy company and was diagnosed with cancer in 2015. Being the sole breadwinner, this was particularly hard fi nancially for his family. He made a full recovery and was clear for fi ve years. But in May 2021, the cancer returned and was diagnosed as terminal. Stephen is undergoing palliative chemotherapy to manage the cancer, but the side eff ects prevent him from

working. His fi ancé doesn’t drive so they rely on taxi services for hospital appointments and school runs. However, Stephen was compelled to do everything he could to alter the course of his terminal diagnosis and began a course of supplements alongside a strict keto diet. The downside is that the supplements and change in diet come at a price. Stephen’s Macmillan Cancer Support worker contacted the EIC explaining Stephen’s wish to complete the supplement course but his lack of fi nance to do so. We supported Stephen with the fi rst

course through to the end of 2021 with Stephen contacting us in autumn 2021 to say his tumour had stopped growing. He was also in great spirits – something he didn’t believe possible just a few months ago. The EIC has since committed to continuing help for Stephen and his family.

The help Stephen is able to access is due to the support of the EIC and the powerLottery. It means he’s getting the support needed to continue alternative treatment and ensure his family is supported. Without powerLottery, the EIC would not be able to off er support to people like

● Wrexham Mineral Cables was shortlisted for a trio of sustainability-focused industry awards.

● Trexon, a portfolio company of Audax Private Equity, completed the acquisition of Intelliconnect, a supplier of RF connectors, adapters, and cable assemblies.

● B.E.G. was awarded a greenhouse gas emissions certifi cation by environment services provider Interseroh for saving more than 30,000 kgs of greenhouse gas emissions and almost 500 tonnes of resources in one year.

● JTL launched a new campaign ahead of its new Domestic Electrician Apprenticeship which commences in January 2023, aiming to educate

employers about the new Domestic Electrician Apprenticeship Standard.

● Trend Networks was recognised as a Gold Honoree at the 2022 Cabling Installation & Maintenance Innovators Awards for its LanTEK IV-S cable certifi er.

● ElectricalDirect and IronmongeryDirect donated £10,000 to a local school, Beacon Hill Academy. Employees from the leading retailer have undertaken a number of initiatives to raise funds for the community academy.

● Domus Ventilation launched a new interactive website.

Lesley Rudd and many others share their insights and advice to electrotechnical professionals who want to seize the opportunities presented by the transition to cleaner, more sustainable electricity. Electrotechnical professionals are creating a cleaner world, decarbonising the UK energy network, electrifying heat and transport, developing smart buildings and improving energy effi ciency. The work of electrotechnical installers will be crucial in ensuring this transition happens; with EV infrastructure, smart grids, and renewable energy, among other new

technologies, representing a huge opportunity for the sector.
