Recolight Update

Rethinking lighting from the ground up Inside the Circular Lighting Live 2026 Conference Programme.

C

lients and specifi ers are asking harder questions about embodied carbon, material choices and end- of-life product responsibility. Legislation on repairability and upgradeability is approaching. Environmental Product Declarations are becoming a requirement rather than a diff erentiator.

For wholesalers and distributors, these shifts

will aff ect what is stocked, what customers ask for, and ultimately what sells.

Organised by Recolight, Circular Lighting Live 2026 is the event where those questions get answered. Taking place on 8 October at the Minster Building in the City of London, the full- day conference brings together manufacturers, designers, specifi ers and supply chain professionals to explore the practical realities

The programme at a glance Suzanne Castine, marketing manager at Recolight, shares details of the 2026 educational sessions.

Keynote: Vision 2040

The day opens with a keynote that asks fundamental questions about where the lighting industry is heading. Could inventory one day live in ceilings rather than warehouses? Will subscription-based models for light output become the norm? The session challenges conventional supply chain thinking and explores what a genuinely circular, zero-waste ecosystem might look like in practice.

Following the keynote presentation, delegates can choose from six specially curated sessions to get the most out of the day.

Making EPDs Work for Everyone Environmental Product Declarations are increasingly required across major construction frameworks. They are already embedded in BREEAM and Ska Ratings and will become central to the UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard. This session examines what EPDs mean in real terms for the supply chain: how they are generated, what data they provide, and why their adoption is accelerating.

Future Lights, Innovation Workshop As the electricity grid decarbonises, the carbon embedded in manufacturing a luminaire

of a low-carbon future. Alongside a multitrack conference programme is an exhibition of sustainable lighting innovation.

Build Back Better Awards 2026 Build Back Better Awards 2026 will take place at Circular Lighting Live, celebrating and rewarding

is becoming as signifi cant as the energy it consumes in use. This session examines how material selection is evolving in response. It looks at the technologies and design approaches that are reducing the environmental footprint of new products entering the market.

Projects Uncovered, Real World Lessons Case studies off er some of the most useful intelligence available to the trade. This session focuses on standout sustainable lighting schemes of 2026. One of which is the remanufacturing and upgrade of the historic light fi ttings at Leadenhall Market in London. It explores what the project reveals about heritage- sensitive circular practice and the practicalities of delivering sustainable outcomes on complex schemes.

Disruptive Design, the Role of Designers

Lighting designers are increasingly infl uential in specifying products with sustainability credentials. This session examines how independent designers are responding to shifting regulations and client expectations. It also considers what their

creativity, innovation, social purpose and environmental leadership in lighting.

Attending

For wholesalers, Circular Lighting Live is a timely opportunity to understand the forces reshaping the products they stock and the conversations their customers are already having. Attendance is free for lighting specifi ers, including independent lighting designers, architects, consulting engineers, wholesalers and end-users. An early bird rate is available until 31 July for manufacturers. Book your place at circularlighting.live

The conference is sponsored by Light Projects Evolve, Albis, Fagerhult, and Thorlux lighting.

changing specifi cation habits mean for the products being sourced through the supply chain.

Materials Masterclass, Low Carbon Alternatives

This is a practical session covering the materials and metrics that underpin sustainable product selection. Delegates will receive an introduction to Carbon Literacy principles, a globally recognised framework for understanding and acting on climate impact. There is also a technical overview of the latest sustainable polycarbonates entering the market. These include low-carbon and bio- based options already in production use by lighting manufacturers.

Confronting Cat A, Six Ways to Cut Waste Cat A fi t-outs are a signifi cant source of waste in the commercial property sector. Luminaires are frequently removed and discarded when tenants move in. This session examines practical alternatives. It covers luminaire leasing models that reduce both cost and environmental impact for developers, alongside a broader rethink of how Cat A products are designed from the outset to enable reuse rather than disposal.
