New year, new start W

elcome to the January issue of Electrical Wholesaler.

A survey of 2,000 UK adults by Soffos.ai on the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on professional growth found that a third (36%) of full-time workers feel their professional development has regressed; 28% were due a promotion that has now been put on hold; and just under half (46%) have received no training from their employer during the pandemic. 2020 brought challenges that none of us expected, but as we enter 2021 with the new hope of the vaccine, here’s hoping that essential development opportunities are able to be prioritised once more. Luckily, technology and product

innovation seem to be thriving across all aspects of the electrotechnical industry, going by the positive news shared by our contributors in this issue. Appropriately for chilly January weather, this issue includes features on both electric

heating and electric water heating. On page 16, BEAMA’s Chris Stammers makes the case for electric heating as part of the Government’s decarbonisation strategy, and on page 25, Heatrae Sadia’s Roy Marsden looks at the rise of smart technology in managing hot water provision. Also in this issue we have an exclusive

interview with Ovia’s Mike Collins on lighting in 2021, as well as features on e-commerce software, access control and green energy from industry experts. Plus, of course, our usual news, views, product innovations and installations from market-leading businesses.

Happy reading!
