Power Tools ushers in cordless era A

s part of the launch of the HiKOKI Power Tools brand (formerly Hitachi Power

Tools), the company conducted market research in the form of opinion exchanges, surveys and investigations into its customers’ needs. Over 250 tradespeople in the UK engaged in a

survey examining their use and preference of cordless power tools.

Phil Goddard, Specification Manager at Ellis A

n innovative CPD course developed by a leading cable cleat manufacturer,

Ellis, has helped educate almost 2,000 engineering professionals from around the world as to the necessity for, and correct specification of, cable cleats. “Cable cleats: a device for short circuit

protection” is a UK accredited, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course that has been adapted for international use and is offered both person-to-person and online as an e-CPD by Ellis through its e-learning portal. Phil Goddard, Ellis’ Specification Manager,

said: “As with our cable cleats, our CPD programme has a global reputation. The numbers who are receiving certification are growing rapidly, while at the same time we’re seeing a surge in the number of enquiries, both on and offline, for the course.”

The survey found that 84% of power tool users

would consider going completely cordless, over 50% of all respondents have more cordless than corded tools in their toolbox or van, and 82% of professional power tools users turn to cordless tools to ‘get the job done - anywhere’. Additionally, more than 50% of tradespeople prefer cordless power tools because of the added safety they offer – with no cords or mains power onsite. New battery technologies, combined with brushless motors are driving the move to cordless. HiKOKI’s research shows that users feel cordless are superior to corded tools as they can take a cordless tool anywhere, are compact and lightweight compared to their corded counterparts and, with no leads to trip on, are safer.
