NET launches new AM2 certifi cate checker
T
o help tackle the growing issue of fake industry credentials and paid-for qualifi cations, NET has launched a new online service that allows users to check the validity of an AM2 certifi cate.
Unfortunately, it’s now commonplace when browsing social media and industry chat to see adverts off ering forged ECS cards, qualifi cations and other certifi cates. Any certifi cate issued by NET already incorporates multiple security measures to combat counterfeits, but to make it even easier for employers and others to check the validity of a certifi cate, the online search function now off ers a further means of verifi cation.
Users are asked to enter the certifi cate’s issue number and the holder’s National Insurance number on the NET website. The results then show if NET holds a certifi cate that matches those details, or if further investigation is needed. “It’s very hard to stop these fraudulent adverts but there’s no need for anyone to get away with fake certifi cates or cards,” said Carolyn Mason, NET chief executive. “Our online service allows people to check AM2 validity directly. We urge employers to make these checks when recruiting to help combat those who are trying to cheat the system.”
Latest LMI published by TESP gives new skills insights
N
ew Labour Market Intelligence
published by TESP has shown an increased focus on low carbon activities and an increase in expected demand for qualifi ed electricians and apprentices. The LMI study, carried out by research experts Pye Tait and funded by industry charity NET, found that with a total workforce of around 276,000, best case scenario calculations estimate around 33,000 additional workers are needed by 2027. Of those employers questioned, 54% and 49% respectively expect demand for qualifi ed electricians and apprentices to increase over the next two to three years.
Main future challenges employers highlight included labour pool and skills shortages, new technologies, Net Zero targets and rising costs. Barriers to Net Zero technology adoption include lack of available training, upskilling costs and insuffi cient Government guidance and funding. Drawing together all fi ndings in the report, Pye Tait states that two largest challenges the industry is currently facing are attracting a suffi cient number of high-quality recruits and upskilling the existing workforce to meet changing technological needs.
