BVM introduces the new Seiko Edito kiosk printer family

Following its appointment as official distributor for Seiko Instruments’ printer mechanisms and portable printers for the UK and Ireland, BVM has introduced the new Edito range of direct-thermal kiosk printers, designed for high use environments. Typical applications include parking, vending, ATMs, information and check- in terminals, retail kiosks and photo booths; Edito can be used in both indoor and outdoor kiosks. There are four models in the family: a basic cut and drop type, an output control version with anti-jam and pull protection, a model with presenter control to save paper handling and another with full present and retract functions. For convenience and ease of use, innovative features such as Feed and Print buttons are

High contrast graphic display SPI/I²C interface

included on the front and rear of the printers and the multi-coloured illuminated bezel can be set to show the printer status.

All Edito printers employ the highly reliable, wide -20 to +70°C operating temperature CAPM347 printer mechanism. The flexible paper channel accepts paper width from 58 to 83 mm, and the large diameter 7- position paper arm, which accepts paper rolls up to 200mm in diameter, can be mounted on the left or the right of the unit. For applications requiring pre-printed tickets, a black-mark sensor is built into the paper channel, together with a tension unit that acts as a clutch and prevents the paper roll from unwinding after high-speed prints.

USB drivers for Windows and Linux are provided. Many fonts are embedded and 20 additional fonts in character sizes from 6x8 to 64x64 dots can be downloaded. Up to 20 user fonts and 20 bitmap images can be stored in flash memory. The sophisticated firmware and software tools can monitor printer status and perform upload and download of printer settings to save time when configuring a batch of printers.

Compact single output 300W power supplies

A series of compact, single output AC-DC converters designed to provide up to 300W across a wide operating temperature range of -30º to +85ºC has just been announced by Powersolve. The seven model PSY300 series power supplies are open PCB units with a 3 x 5in footprint. They operate from a wide 90 to 264VAC input range with active PFC.

Models in the PSY300 series provide output voltages from 12 to 54VDC with output currents from 3.70A to 16.67A convection cooled and from 5.55A to 25A with fan cooling. A 12V, 0.3A fan supply is a standard feature. Powersolve can also supply models with output voltages from 9V to 57VDC, still within the safety approvals, but subject to minimum order quantities.

PSY300 units are efficient (up to 92%) and feature a no load power consumption figure of 0.25W without fan and the integral LED power indicator.

The power supplies are protected against short circuit, over current, over voltage and over temperature and feature remote sense and power fail signal.

The PSY300 series meet all relevant EMI radiated and conducted standards and have a number of safety approvals including CE, CB EN60950-1 and UL/cUL60950-1.

Public, private or hybrid cloud Using the cloud is increasingly becoming a long-term, economic

success factor for companies. However, there is one essential requirement – trust. The new edition of “be top” explains why technological progress needs a good measure of trust if it is to thrive. In the Friedhelm Loh Group company magazine, four experts reveal the quickest ways that companies can establish that trust.

“New technologies only start to become established when users trust them. No matter how good or beneficial they are, if there is no trust, the technology will only be used by a handful of entrepreneurs,” explains Matthias Söllner, assistant professor of management and business studies at the universities of Kassel and St. Gallen.

Prof. Söllner is one of four experts featuring in the latest edition of customer magazine be top. Digitalisation is an everyday reality for them. In be top, they explain why new technologies such as cloud computing need trust and reveal the quickest ways that

companies can build that confidence. After all, everyone can agree that trust contributes to sustainable and profitable success.

Combining security and courage

Decisions about whether or not to adopt new technologies such as the cloud often centre on a sense of security. That is why, in his interview, Dr Dirk Schlesinger, Chief Digital Officer at TÜV SÜD, talks about effective precautions and the courage to pursue progress.

+ touch-screen option MMS Electronics Ltd has available a new series of OLED displays. These OLED displays offer excellent readability with high contrast and very wide viewing angle. Another unique feature is the very fast response time with temperature range from -40°C to +80°C. The EA OLEDL128-6 displays are available in six versions. The standard version is EA OLED128-6LGA. Available in G (Yellow), B (Blue), W (White) and R (Red). The EA OLED128-6GGA has a special scratch, shock, and UV protective front glass. The EA OLED128-6NGA is supplied without polarizer, providing even greater brightness. This version is ideally used behind smoked glass. The module size is 67.8 x 47.9 mm with view area 64 x 37 mm. Interface is SPI and I2

C with

integrated SSD1309 controller. The connecting pins on the displays are a 2.54mm (0.1 in) pitch. Display can be soldered directly into the PCB or plugged into a socket. An analogue resistive touch-screen is available.

How to achieve climate control in the food industry

Climate control of enclosures using water cooling is highly efficient, especially if there is already a central cold water supply available in the production plant. The new Hygienic Design air/water heat exchangers from Rittal are suited to the food industry, where hygiene standards are exceptionally stringent. Hygiene is an absolute must in the food industry: machinery, plant and components must readily withstand daily cleaning with pressure washers and jet steam cleaners.

All surfaces must also be easy to clean, and/or designed to prevent contaminants from adhering to them.

Use water cooling to dissipate heat

Liquid cooling of enclosures offers a number of benefits: Because water has a higher thermal capacity than air, liquid cooling can dissipate large quantities of heat. What’s more, industrial environments often already have a central cooling water supply available that can be used for enclosure cooling. All that’s left to do is to mount suitable air/water heat exchangers on the enclosure. With Hygienic Design, it is particularly important that no air exchange takes place between the enclosure and the environment.

Rittal has revamped its air/water heat exchangers, and can now offer its clients in the food industry two variants of Hygienic Design. Air/water heat exchangers for wall mounting can supply cooling outputs of either 0.65 or 1.2kW. The hygienic design reduces the risk of contamination in the food industry, thus helping to ensure product safety.

can give up to 400V Leading power supply specialist, Powersolve, announces a series of high voltage AC-DC, single output power supplies that can provide up to 3000W with output voltages from 150V to 400V. There are five models in the PEK3000HV series all of which feature a full 90-264VAC input range with active PFC and forced current sharing for parallel operation.

All five Models in the PEK3000HV series offer single outputs programmable between 0% and 105%. Output current (7.5A to 20A) is also programmable between 0% and 105%. A +5V, 0.5A or +9V, 0.3A auxiliary output is also provided.

Features include constant current limit, intelligent LED indicators and an operating temperature range from -25ºC to +60ºC – with derating above 50ºC. The new units are protected against overload, over voltage, over temperature and fan failure. Remote on/off, remote sense and power good signals make system integration a simple task. PEK3000HV units also feature RS232, RS485 and I²C for remote setting and global control.

The PEK3000HV power supplies measure 280 x 170 x 63.5mm and come with full safety approvals.
