I’m confi dent that we’ll see market growth in Europe, the US and Japan in the fi rst half of this year, followed by growth in Asian markets during the second half. To help mitigate any lingering supply and demand imbalances that UK markets may have to contend with I urge suppliers and customers to play their part in our industry’s continuing success by participating and contributing to the collaboration process both up and down their supply network. Collaboration with peers costs organisations very little and when well- managed benefi ts all parties and provides a great return on the time invested.

And the rest of the year? The forecast for the rest of 2023 made by ecsn Manufacturer Authorised Distributor members is also shown in the graphic ‘DTAM by Quarter for 2017 – 2023’. They predicted slowing or declining market growth, culminating in an outcome for the year in the range (2%)-to- 4.0%, with a mid-point of 2.8%. Given the strong growth in Q1’23 and the positive


sentiment amongst both ecsn members and their customers it’s reasonable to expect that the 2023 outcome is likely to be signifi cantly better than forecast, but a lot can change in nine months. A year end outcome of circa 5% growth currently looks likely, but I must caution that we may yet meet signifi cant headwinds with the power to blow things off course.
