Expansion case with insertable cover panel GD

The integration of PCBs or electronic components in a closed case is especially problematic if it is equipped with connectors on various sides, displays or switches and to be implemented through openings in the case wall or cover panel from the outside. For such applications company Fischer Elektronik offers their customers an extended case series GD which is characterized by a particularly installation-friendly design and various functional properties.

The new, one-side open, U-shaped case profiles have integrated guide slots for the insertion of electronic components or PCBs as well as insertable cover panels, which can vary in the material thickness and therefore in stability. By means of a mechanical treatment of the cover panels various devices such as LCDs, connectors, etc. can be mounted easily and inserted in the U-profile afterwards together. The fixing of the cover panel is made by front and back cover panels with inboard shadow gap which does not only balance production tolerances, but also avoids a deflection of the cover panel. Due to the special geometry of the aluminum profile the insertion of membrane key pads or front foils as well as nearly all printings on the external surfaces is possible. The case series GD is available in six different seizes (100, 120, 160, 200, 220, 234 mm) as well as the surface finishes “black” or “natural colour anodized” as a standard. For samples and customised prototypes the case profiles are also available in a length of 1000 mm.

In addition to the standard designs the cases can be machined upon customer's request, surface-treated and printed.

Ruggedised 300W DC-DC power blocks for “difficult”

environments from Powersolve Leading power supply specialist Powersolve announces the TEQ 300WIR family of ruggedised DC-DC converters designed to offer the highest performance in harsh environments.

The power blocks are approved to safety standards IEC/UL 60950-1 and UL 508 as well as meeting the requirements of EN 50155 and EN 61373 which makes them suitable for railway applications.

Made by Traco, TEQ 300WIR units feature extra wide input voltage ranges of 18 to 75VDC and 43 to 160VDC. Interestingly, the nominal input voltages of 48, 72, 96 and 110 VDC can be applied while a ±40% deviation of nominal input voltage does not affect the function. This means that the power blocks can cope with brownouts (0.6 x Vnom x 100ms) and transient voltages (1.4 x Vnom x 1s) as defined by EN50155 - not only for a limited duration, but permanently.

They are available with output voltages of 12, 15, 24, 28 and 48VDC which are adjustable by ±20%.

The TEQ 300WIR models provide a reinforced I/O insulation for an isolation voltage of 3000 VAC (1 min test voltage). The output characteristic is “constant voltage to constant current” (CV/CC) which means that the output voltage is stable up to a load current of about 110% of nominal current. At this point the voltage will be decreased while the current stays stable.

This feature is useful to start motors, charge lead acid batteries or pull up capacitors of unlimited capacitance. Protection against overheating, overload, short circuit, reversed input, overvoltage and input under-voltage are features that make these converters very reliable and fail-save.

Sense line inputs are available to compensate the voltage drop at long wires to the load and the converter have a load share function for parallel operation of up to three units or for a true redundant operation. All these characteristics allow for a simple but reliable design.

The TEQ 300WIR models are equipped with internal filters to conform to demanding electromagnetic interference requirements. The constraints selected for electromagnetic field immunity, fast transient burst immunity and surge immunity correspond with the highest level for “railway rolling stock equipment” under performance criteria A (continuous operation within specified datasheet limits).

Finding the right connectors for a board stacking application can be time consuming. It can also be a struggle to work out which connectors are mating pairs, which stacking heights are possible and if they are available in the mounting style you need. Often it ends with a design compromise; connectors you can find, rather than the ideal combination, in the heights you actually need. You end up wasting time searching for product when you should in fact be working on the design!

GradConn helps you solve this problem. Even within our massive range of signal and power board to board connectors, our web-based parallel stacking calculator allows you to select products that match your actual requirement efficiently. Let this intuitive yet comprehensive navigation tool rapidly identify your optimal solution and best price.

congatec modules accelerate first-to-market strategies

congatec – a leading technology company for embedded computer modules, single board computers and embedded design and manufacturing services – announces support of the new 64-bit NXP i.MX8 processors for the Qseven and SMARC module standards. As a member of NXP’s Early Access Program, the new congatec modules will be available in time with the production launch of the new ARM Cortex A53/A72 based processor family. This enables OEM customers to implement their first-to-market strategies efficiently, since they can start designing the carrier board for their applications now and will be able to leverage application-ready i.MX8 based congatec modules from day one of the launch date. No other design strategy promises faster time-to-market and higher design security. Customers gain important competitive advantages that they can use to capture crucial market share.

The new Qseven and SMARC modules with NXP i.MX8 real-time processors are of great interest for a wide range of industrial, stationary and in-vehicle applications, as the processors integrate up to four cores and high-performance graphics for up to four independent displays with low energy consumption. Since the modules are designed for the extended ambient temperature range from -40°C to +85°C, they can also be used in fleet systems for commercial vehicles or in infotainment applications in cabs, busses and trains as well as all the new electric and autonomous vehicles. The acceptance of these new platforms is accelerated by the widespread use of ARM technologies in the consumer electronics market, which further reinforces the dominance of ARM technology, especially in the (ultra-) low-power segment of embedded computer technologies.

SCHURTER's new capacitive Metal Line switch SCHURTER is launching its new series of momentary and latching

push button switches with capacitive touch sensor technology inside. With this new product family, SCHURTER enters the latest technology trend in push button products on the market, while incorporating new and innovative features. With their elegant and modern look, these products are the perfect choice where ever a high quality-aesthetic appearance plays a role. Besides a predefined standard offering, there are many visual and functional options available to choose from. These features allow the customer to adapt the push button, or the switch in general, to their individual electrical and mechanical requirements.

The new CPS family of switches from SCHURTER is available with 16 mm, 19 mm and 22 mm diameter housings. The series is made of high-grade stainless steel. The CPS uses capacitive sensor technology, whereby a touch of the finger on the sensor area causes

a change in the electrical field which in turn causes the switch to change its state; this occurs without any pressure on the actuator. The capacitive touch technology eliminates the need for any moving parts, hence making the CPS a long-life product capable of an unlimited number of actuations. The design of the CPS has a high-end look and elegant appearance as it is well-known to SCHURTER's Metal Line. The CPS actuator expands further on actuation options with a so-called finger guide, which is designed to enhance the user experience.

Besides a set of predefined standard variations, the CPS can easily be customized to specific customer requirements by simply choosing from a list of options in the configurator list provided in the data sheet. Further customer specific adaptions, which are not listed in the data sheet, can be requested as well. With standard and customized options, the CPS is suitable for many different applications in various industry sectors, like industrial automation, food processing, lab equipment, door and access control panels, white goods, various electronic equipment, just to name a few.
