Front End I Electronic Components Supply Network
Football, dinner and fun - a great industry networking day
As you're reading this column in Components In Electronics it's a safe bet that you have more than a passing professional stake in keeping abreast with the developments that impact the UK and international electronic components markets. One of the more relaxed and enjoyable ways to do this is by joining your peers at one of the networking events organised by the Electronic Components Supply Network (ecsn)
FC), ably assisted by a host of football trainees kindly loaned by Brighton and Hove Albion FC.
Adam Fletcher T
he next ecsn event takes place on the 14th June 2018 on the West Sussex coast and comprises a 5-a-side
football tournament followed by our annual industry dinner, where last year over 200 industry friends, colleagues, suppliers and customers gathered for a very convivial get together.
5-a-side football tournament Held at the Sussex Football Association HQ in Lancing, West Sussex, the tournament is played over six games of 15 minutes each way and is organised and managed on the day by soccer professionals Guy Butters (Tottenham, Portsmouth and Brighton FC) and Kerry Mayo (Brighton & Hove Albion

Players of all levels of fitness and competitiveness are welcome, including teams and players that have trained for the event and the many others whose only exercise involves walking the dog. All participants will benefit from encouragement and tips from the professionals, who are not above 'substituting' a professional player into a defensive role when a team needs a little help maintaining their competitiveness in the face of more serious-minded opposition. Interestingly, most matches finish very close, with perhaps only a couple of goals separating the two teams. Frequent refreshment breaks enable players to rest and recuperate between games and lunch is provided, so there’s plenty of opportunity to engage in friendly banter with team mates and members of the opposing teams. The tournament is open to all in the
electronic components supply network. You can participate as an individual or as a company team, so please register your interest in the first instance by emailing Jill Waite at

Onward to Brighton… Then it’s off to Brighton seafront for more refreshments and perhaps a walk on the beach before the main business of the day begins: At 18:00 ecsn market analyst, Aubrey Dunford will deliver his take on current and future ‘happenings’ in global electronic components markets. In his presentation Dunford will look at the trends and market data in the UK/Ireland and onwards into Europe, finally extending

on into North America and Asia to complete an international view. Dunford’s presentation usually sparks lively interchanges on a wide range of industry subjects from components availability, extending lead-times, new applications and market growth during his presentation, over dinner and later in the bar.
After dinner
Following a very enjoyable three-course dinner (with ample wine and coffee) we welcome our keynote speaker Dr. David Richards, a globally recognised innovation thought-and-practice leader, author, entrepreneur and most notably, co-founder of the MIT Innovation Lab. Dr. Richard’s book, The Seven Sins of Innovation: A Strategic Model for Entrepreneurship, was acclaimed by Roger Lacey, former chief strategy officer of 3M as “elevating the thinking on this crucial subject [innovation] to the highest level”, so expect the content of his presentation to be pertinent and thought provoking. Finally, following presentation of the
awards to the winners of the football tournament held earlier in the day, Guy Butters will again host his popular charity auction of footballing memorabilia. ecsn is delighted to support the very worthwhile local charity “Albion in The Community”, to which all proceeds of auction will be donated.
