Voting now open for the Electronics Industry Awards

oting is now open for the Electronics Industry Awards, putting the power in the hands of professionals from across the sector. The first edition of the scheme saw an incredible number of entries and nominations submitted, all of which are now listed on the secure online voting form on the Electronics Industry Awards website. With no panel of judges, the winners will be decidedly solely by the industry’s vote. Five finalists will be produced per category, and the winner will be the product, company or person who has received the most votes overall. Voting will close on 6th July, and the winners will be
revealed at the Awards ceremony taking place on 25th September 2018 at the NCC Birmingham. The Electronics Industry Awards, organised by Datateam Business Media, has been launched in association with CIE Magazine and with the full support of Electronics Magazine, ECSN and What’s New In Electronics. There has also been an increase in sponsors for the evening. BWW Communications, Mouser and Intelliconnect will be joining ECSN, What’s New In Electronics and headline sponsor, Astute, as sponsors at the Electronics Industry Awards. New 97mm blower fan delivers 50 per cent higher static pressure and 15 per cent more airflow

AO Ltd has introduced a new series of small, low voltage blower fans that deliver a static
pressure of 1950P (max.) and an airflow of 111m3 /hour (max.) at a rated speed of 8200 rpm. Developed by Sanyo Denki, San Ace 9BMC blower fans measure just 97mm by 33mm but delivers the cooling performance and low noise requirements demanded by high-density equipment such as Servers, PSUs, fuel cells and air-con units. In a typical higher performance cooling system, the new fans provide 20 per cent higher static pressure and eight per cent higher airflow that competitive products, and 50 per cent higher static pressure and 15 per cent higher airflow than the Sanyo Denki 9BMB family. Alternatively, whilst running by at a P-Q point equivalent to competitors’ products, the new blower fan consumed 20 per cent less power and 3dB(A) less SPL (sound pressure level). The new San Ace 9BMC blower fans are available in 12 and 24VDC variants. They feature optional pulse sensors (tacho) and pulse width modulation (PWM) control, which facilitates external control of fan speed. Engineered with dual ball bearings the new fans provide reliability figures of 70,000 hours MTBF at 40oC (40,000 hours at 60oC), ensuring trouble-free long-term operation.
The 9BMC blower fan is part of range of Sanyo Denki, San Ace brand DC blower fans that also includes models with frame widths of 52, 76, 97, 120, 127 and 160mm.

Problem solved: discontinued passives and long lead times with current components

o help engineers and buyers in the electronic components industry with End-of-Life (EoL) issues and
getting round today’s long lead times for current products, BEC Distribution has announced the availability of direct alternatives to TOKO/Murata, Coilcraft, Vishay and Sumida lines, with short lead times of 6-8 weeks, where most manufacturers are currently working on 16-30 weeks. BEC’s range of EoL replacements and
pin-for-pin replacements for current passives include: shielded power inductors, multi-layer ceramic chip inductors, radial peaking coils, open wire-wound chip inductors and thin-film chip inductors.
Background to EoL and current component supply issues Typically, large component manufacturers discontinue product lines after 5-10 years. This can have a potentially disastrous impact on customers whose products have longer expected lifetime e.g. aerospace, medical, surveillance or defence industry equipment. The availability of BEC’s component replacements will far exceed 10 years.
BEC Distribution’s EoL component supplies will be a lifeline to R&D engineers and buyers, where components have been designed into their product lines.

With a stock of 15m passive components and franchised distribution agreements with quality alternative component manufacturers, BEC can provide high quality, pin-for-pin direct replacement or alternatives. If the required components are not in stock, then BEC will track down and source matching alternatives, ensuring that EoL issues will not hinder customers’ projects.
Planning for the future With support from BEC, engineers and buyers alike can plan ahead right from the beginning when components are first used or when they are designed-in, ensuring that EoL does not necessarily mean end of supply or support.
BEC will perform a ‘scrub’ service flagging EoLs, recommend alternatives and collate other information for buyers to update their ERP systems. When customers have ‘nearly’ consumed their scheduled ordered parts or have bids on their active bills of materials, BEC would trigger proactive discussions about what actions can be taken, including offering alternate suppliers or substitute parts, redesigning a board or a suggesting a long-term stocking solution. Sourcing EoL components without
proper assessment and technical due diligence could involve potential risks to

performance or quality of final products. Engineers and buyers need to carefully consider from whom to source EoL components. One of the most important things to look for in a distribution partner is their technical sourcing ability and proven experience in the market, together with guarantees that the alternatives fully match original specifications.
