Southern Manufacturing & Electronics gets back to business

Southern Manufacturing & Electronics, the UK’s largest and longest running electronics show, returns to Farnborough from February 8th to 10th 2022. Having bounced-back very swiftly from last year’s Covid-induced break, the 20,000m² Farnborough International Exhibition Centre will once again be fi lled to capacity with an incredible array of production hardware, components, subcontract services and workshop equipment offered by vendors from across the UK, continental Europe and beyond.

T

he show is undoubtedly among the fi nest exhibitions in the UK to locate components and specialised engineering know-how, both locally and internationally. During these times of restricted travel, the chance to tackle multiple sourcing issues in a single visit is one not to be missed.

Roughly half the floor area is dedicated to electronics, and within this area the visitor will encounter many familiar names. Production and inspection hardware exhibitors include Mycronic, exhibiting its adaptable PCB manufacturing solutions intended to help reduce operational running costs and increase yield. Alongside its usual exhibits, this year Blundell Production Equipment is launching the i-Pulse Yamaha M20 auto-placement machines, with specialists on hand to guide visitors through set-up and functionality. Within the realm of components, the show offers a staggering array of vendors and categories; everything from c-class and consumables, through mechanical, pneumatic and electromechanical, to passive and active components, highly specialised sensors, IoT, RF and LoRa ASICs and much more. There are also numerous firms offering subassemblies such as power supplies and custom wiring harnesses, together with EMC parts, enclosures and much more besides.

Major international distributors present for 2022 include Transfer Multisort Elektronik (TME). Headquartered in Poland but with operations in 11 countries, the

firm is one of Europe’s largest distributors of electronic, electromechanical and industrial automatic components, as well as workplace equipment, carrying 500,000 product lines from more than 1,200 leading manufacturers. The product range includes semiconductors, embedded and IoT systems, optoelectronics and light sources, passives, connectors, relays and contactors, fuses and circuit breakers, wires and cables, sound sources, fans, cooling and heating systems, enclosures, transformers and ferrite cores, automatics, power sources, pneumatics, workplace equipment and robotics.

Exhibiting for the first time is Turkey’s Ozdisan Elektronik, the region’s largest electronic component distributor. It’s US$35m product portfolio spans semi- conductors, passive components and electro-mechanical parts from over 200 named brands. The firm also offers PCB production and assembly, together with a full EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Service) with 9 SMT lines offering double- side SMT and through-hole assembly capability to ISO and IATF-16949. From Switzerland, Schurter Electronics manufactures circuit protection, connectors, switches and EMC products

as well as input systems developed in close co-operation with customers. The company is part of the worldwide Schurter Group, a Swiss family company serving various markets including industrial, medical, automotive, aerospace, data and communication and energy sectors. Another multi-national presence at the show is Telegartner UK. Part of the German Telegärtner Group, it supplies high quality electro-mechanical components, widely used in sectors such as marine, railway, medical, telecoms and industrial. Its own- brand components include the Telegärtner RF and Datavoice ranges. The firm can also
