PCIM Europe 2019: Topics and highlights
In less than three months from today, the leading international exhibition and conference for power electronics, intelligent motion, renewable energy and energy management, the PCIM Europe, will be opening its doors. All indicators show that the event is set to be a success
F
rom 7 – 9 May 2019, market leaders as well as small, specialized companies will be showcasing their products and components at the PCIM Europe in Nuremberg, Germany. Among other things, trade visitors can look forward to innovations in power semiconductors and passive components, which are presented by 39 per cent and 38 per cent of the exhibitors respectively, as well as in thermal management (25 per cent) and power converters (21 per cent). Once again, this year, the number of exhibiting companies is expected to exceed 500, more than half of them from abroad.
Trend topics hot off the presses The PCIM Europe offers a top-quality lecture program – at the application- oriented conference as well as at the three exhibition forums. Presentations cover topics such as ”The Evolution of GaN“ (Power Systems Design), „EV/HEV Transformation of the Power Modules Industry“ (Yole Développement) and ”Thermal Resistance of Interconnect Layers in Inverter Power Stack Assembly“ (Alpha Assembly Solutions). In keeping with the motto “Meet the Speaker”, those at the Industry forum as well as the E- mobility forum will
be available for questions for 15 minutes after their lectures. For the first time ever, there will be Guided Tours on the trend topic of e- mobility, introducing exhibitors that specialize in this application of power electronics. Interested visitors have the possibility of signing up for these tours online prior to the event. Tickets for the PCIM Europe are available at
pcim-europe.com/tickets as well as on-site at the exhibition grounds.
Power presentations The PCIM Europe conference program 2019 is now fixed: Top speakers from science and industry will present their latest research findings and innovations in the field of power electronics in Nuremberg from 7 – 9 May 2019. Participants of the conference can expect an extensive program consisting of over 300 oral and poster presentations, keynotes, special sessions and an exclusive range of seminars and tutorials. The internationally oriented event will deal with topics such as recent developments in power semiconductors, passive components, thermal management products, energy storage, sensors and new materials.
Future-oriented lectures Fred Lee, Virginia Tech, USA will be delivering a keynote speech on the topic “Next Generation of Power Supplies”. Further, “The Age of Optimization in Power Electronics” will be addressed by Ki-Bum Park, ABB Corporate Research Center, Switzerland. In addition, Jim Witham, GaN Systems, USA provides knowledge on “GaN and Industry 4.0 – A Small Change that is Revolutionizing the Industry”. Further highlights of the conference program are four special sessions on the topics “Technologies for DC Grids”, “Smart Functions in Power Electronics”, “Safety in Motion” and “Smart Transformers”.
Application knowledge around power electronics Participants can look forward to a unique platform to exchange knowledge in seven seminars and ten tutorials. In a one-day tutorial, Edward Shelton, University of Cambridge, Great Britain, will be providing specialized knowledge on “WBG Devices, Circuits and Measurement” and give insights into his special field with co- presenters from industry and academia. Furthermore, current topics, such as “Reliability Engineering in Power Electronics Systems”, “High Power Medium Frequency Transformer Design Optimisation” and “Ceramic capacitors: Characterization and Use as Control Elements” will be analysed and discussed. seminars and tutorials provide the necessary arena for individual questions.
Attractive supporting program New at the PCIM Europe conference is the format "Meet the Speaker". Participants will have the opportunity to engage in an intensive exchange with the keynote speaker of each conference day in a thirty-minute Q&A session. The PCIM Europe Welcome Party also offers an additional possibility to network in a relaxed atmosphere.
