Front End I Electronic Components Supply Network
Football, Food and Fun: Join your peers at our annual Industry Networking Event…
If you're reading this column, it's a safe bet that you have a professional interest in keeping abreast with developments that impact the UK, and international electronic component markets. One of the more relaxed and enjoyable ways to do this is by joining your peers at one of the networking events organised by the Electronic Components Supply Network (ecsn)
T
he next ecsn networking event takes place on the May 23 2019 on the West Sussex coast, and comprises a 5-a-side football tournament followed by our annual industry dinner, where last year over two hundred industry friends, colleagues, suppliers and customers gathered for a very convivial and informal get together. Aside from being enjoyable our flagship networking event presents a much-needed forum for members of the UK electronics industry to engage socially with a wide range of industry peers, be they customers, suppliers, competitors or just old friends, and in the process, gain a wider perspective on the industry in which we all work. But first things first:
5-a-side football tournament…
Brighton and Hove Albion FC. Players of all levels of fitness and competitiveness are welcome, including those for whom walking the dog is the only exercise, and the more serious players who claim to train for the event. Whatever their skill level all players will benefit from encouragement and tips from the professionals. The emphasis is firmly on enjoyment, so the ‘managers’ are not above substituting a professional player into a defensive role when a team needs a little help maintaining their competitiveness in the face of more serious-minded opposition. It’s perhaps no surprise that the two teams are usually only separated by a goal or two at the conclusion of each match. Frequent refreshment breaks enable players to rest and recuperate between games and lunch is laid on, so there’s plenty of opportunity to engage in friendly banter with members of the opposing teams, team mates, supporters and the local football professionals. The tournament is open to all. You can enter as part of a company team or as an individual, in which case the organisers will place you into one of the ‘scratch’ teams on the day. However you’d like to participate please register your interest in the first instance by emailing Jill Waite at

Our day kicks off with a 5-a-side football tournament at the Sussex Football Association HQ in Lancing, West Sussex. Played over six games of 15 minutes each way the tournament is organised and managed on the day by soccer professionals Guy Butters (Tottenham, Portsmouth and Brighton FC) and Kerry Mayo (Brighton & Hove Albion, pictured), ably assisted by a host of football trainees kindly loaned by

Onward to Brighton… Then it’s off to Brighton seafront for further refreshment and perhaps a walk along the beach before the main business of the day begins. At 18:00, ecsn market analyst Aubrey Dunford (pictured) will summarise market data and performance trends for electronic components markets in the UK/ Ireland and onwards into Europe, finally extending on into North America and Asia to complete an international view. Aubrey’s presentation always sparks lively debate on a wide range of industry subjects - typically including components availability, extending lead- times and emerging applications - both

After dinner…
After dinner we welcome our keynote speaker. Brian Wood (pictured) was formally a Colour Sergeant with the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment. He was awarded the Military Cross, one of Britain’s highest awards for gallantry in combat, by Her Majesty the Queen in recognition of his courageous leadership whilst under enemy fire in Iraq. In his highly inspirational and compelling presentation Brian shares his experiences in the military and suggests how the lessons he learned can be beneficially applied within our industry. Finally, following presentation of the
