Celtic & Co Founders - Kath and Nick Whitworth
What’s the story behind the brand? Celtic & Co. is a British fashion brand, offering luxury products made exclusively from the finest, all-natural fibres, predominantly produced in the UK. Based in Newquay, Cornwall, Celtic & Co. founders – Nick and Kath Whitworth have been running the business for 28 years which is now one of the UK’s largest retailers of luxury sheepskin products. Originally trading as The Original UGG®, before selling the rights to Deckers Inc in order to purchase the factory and warehouse space at Treloggan Industrial Estate where Celtic is still based to this day. The business began trading as Celtic Sheepskin Ltd, and expanded into a premium womenswear, menswear and homewares brand, specialising in natural fibres, from the finest merino to British sheepskin boots and slippers, still manufactured by hand in their workshop in Newquay.
Is there a brand philosophy? Inspired by nature, crafted for life - Celtic & Co offer enduring contemporary pieces using natural materials because they are renewable, sustainable and a pleasure to wear. As a huge advocate of wool, Celtic always promotes this extremely versatile eco- fibre and regularly gets involved with the Prince of Wales’ ‘Campaign for Wool’. It is wear resistant, provides good insulation against the elements, and has the extraordinary capability of being able to absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture without feeling wet.
What sets this brand apart from the rest? Celtic’s collections are predominantly crafted right here in the UK, but most importantly they are crafted solely from natural fibres and materials. They are crafted to last a lifetime and their price point provides great value too when you compare them with other brands selling sheepskin outerwear for example. Focusing on Celtic’s sheepskin boots, not only are the skins from British sheep, and a bi-product of the farming industry, being British - with our weather being so bad - their wool is a lot thicker, making the product far superior compared with the thin skins from China and Australia for example. Celtic & Co’s sheepskin footwear is specially treated so that they can be thrown in the washing machine, bringing them up like new every time.
and accessories there. Celtic also ethically sources its clothing, outerwear and homeware within the UK and Europe. Celtic does not produce in vast quantities, so they can be trusted and relied upon to only provide products of the highest quality.

How is the brand marketed? Do you use social networking? Operating as a direct to consumer retailer via catalogues, through their website
www.celticandco.com and dedicated call centre, Celtic & Co now sell to over 80 different countries, but have most recently seen a significant boost in sales since growing international presence in the United States, Canada and Australia. A very social brand, they feature on all mainstream channels such as facebook, Instagram, twitter etc.
They are also double-stitched making them robust and they feature a hidden heel support to stop that unsightly slouching sheepskin boots from other brands get.
Does this brand offer a good profit margin for retailers? Celtic & Co offers retailers a 2.4 mark up across the entire range. There are no minimums and they can replenish stock throughout the season too. Celtic supplies a number of different independent boutiques across the UK and offer a white labelling service too.
Where is the brand assembled/manufactured? Celtic & Co believe that customers buy into a brand and not just a product. They love the fact Celtic is British, many of their customers from overseas have ties to our little island, and even fond memories of holidays by the sea. That’s where Cornwall is a winner for Celtic, as they still manufacture their sheepskin footwear
