BRAND PROFILE
What’s the story behind the brand? Paolo Vandini grew out of our initial inclusion of men’s footwear to complement our already successful Laceys Footwear portfolio back in the mid 2000’s.
Previously, we offered and sold steadily, a
mixture of men’s styles mostly out of Spanish factories, but not what we would call a proper collection. Essentially we developed Paolo Vandini in order to offer a permanent and cohesive men’s collection to our growing base of men’s boutique and mixed retail outlets.
Initially, we concentrated on formal and evening
wear with a twist, and this quickly developed our market in the UK and in Ireland. Since then the collection has really gone from strength to strength.
We discovered early on that men are often
serial repeat buyers. Consequently we run a collection of core stock styles which we continue to make as long as we have customers who want to buy them. In addition to the core stock we have continued to develop and originate footwear that is stylish, commercial and made from genuine quality materials.
We created a brilliant collection of winklepickers under the Vandini Veer label and this remains one of our strongest areas. We also developed an excellent Goodyear welted collection which offers heritage styling at an extremely competitive price.
We have added a curated collection of casual
shoes and sandals. While, our men’s boot collection is always very strong and we include all types of styles from classic Chelsea boots to fur lined aviator boots.
Is there a brand philosophy? We set out to create a collection of boots and shoes that mostly we would wear ourselves and we set ourselves a few provisos which we apply whilst designing each seasonal collection.
We like our footwear to fit. We like it to be
comfortable and not to be too expensive. We expect it to last as long as possible if we look after it and consequently we expect the materials to be high quality and well finished.
But, above all we expect our footwear to
be stylish, elegant and contemporary. If we do all of this then I guess this is our brand philosophy.
What sets this brand apart from the rest? If we can live up to the goals we set our collection with regard to styling, quality and price, then our shoes are contemporary, commercial and elegant!
We have over the years carved our niche in the market and we occupy it very well.

Does this brand offer a good profit margin for retailers? We like to recommend our retailers work on a minimum 2.5 margin and if they have an affluent market not to be afraid to price accordingly.
Where is the brand assembled/manufactured? Over the years we have worked with factories in every major shoe manufacturing region! Today we work with a handful of carefully selected factories that we have been developing our collections with for many years. They are located in Spain, Portugal, China and India. Over the years we have simply discovered who does what best and we stick to it.

Who is the agent? Our UK agent is Chris Pegram and our Ireland agent is Lynda Sterling.
How is the brand marketed? Do you use social networking? We still use the usual traditional channels to promote and market the brand such as working with magazines such as Footwear Today, however in the last couple of years the focus has most definitely switched towards digital marketing and particularly using Facebook, Instagram and Google. We produce a lot of imagery and video to promote Paolo Vandini online.
Any famous customers? We have had a number of famous and not so famous customers. A number of up and coming bands have worked with us on our music video projects but perhaps the most famous band would be the gothic wonder that is The Horrors.
Our most famous customer would really have
to be the London 2012 Olympic Committee for whom we made an awful lot of shoes to be worn by participating characters in both the opening and closing ceremonies of the London Games!
We currently offer a comprehensive collection
that covers all the most current selling styles and the size of our live collection is big enough to offer plenty of diversity something we feel is necessary in the market to keep it fresh.
