SUPPLEMENT M&E Week 2023
Manufacturing and Engineering Week 2023 – a festival of innovation
M
anufacturing and Engineering Week (M&E Week) 2023 is living up to its promise of becoming
“the festival of industrial innovation” with several new events added for 2023, including Smart Factory Expo and the Drives & Controls zone.
Notable activities include the free
conference sessions, which will be held in the keynote theatres. The panel discussion ‘Are Robotics & Automation the Answer to the Skills Crisis?’ seems particularly relevant, as does the session entitled ‘How Can Manufacturers Take Advantage of Innovation and Industry 5.0?’.
Emphasising the importance of M&E
Week is the UK governments keynote address on Day 1, on the topic of its plans for supporting UK manufacturing. The same subject will also be addressed on Day 2 by the shadow government. Similarly, top-level support for M&E
Week can be seen in its advisory council members, who have contributed to the structure of the conference programme, with luminaries such as Stephen Phipson CBE, Chief Executive Make UK and chairing the council, Clare Porter, Head of manufacturing Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, and Rosa Wilkinson, Director of Policy, High Value Manufacturing Catapult. The conference agenda can be found

The week beginning 5th June 2023 is Manufacturing & Engineering Week with the centrepiece exhibitions Design & Engineering Expo, Smart Factory Expo, Maintec and the Drives & Controls zone taking place at Birmingham’s NEC on 7th and 8th June. Other exhibitions are also taking place at the NEC during that week, including Automechanika run by Messe Frankfurt, Med-Tech Innovation Expo and TCT 3Sixty from Rapid News Group, and Subcon from the Mark Allen Group. Of particular interest is the addition of Smart Factory Expo which off ers the

manufacturing industry cutting-edge solutions with advancements in hardware and software, whilst also informing visitors of the important changes in their sector. This year, Smart Factory Expo includes an innovation alley, where startups will exhibit their prototypes and solutions, and the professional insights of leading fi gures in robotics and additive manufacturing.
Manufacturing and Engineering Week strives to off er something diff erent. An example of this is a focus on engineering and music, with several activities available for music fans. For the budding Eric Claptons, Joe Bonamassas and Dave Grohls, there is a chance to win a 3D-printed guitar in the Guitar Legends Competition.
Among other 2023 events are the Manufacturing Digitalisation Summit – an executive-level conference for businesses with turnover above £100m, and the SME Growth Summit for businesses with turnover under £100m. These will run alongside other events such as The Manufacturer Top 100, The Marketing to
Manufacturers Night Summit, and the Visitor and Exhibitor Drinks party. There will be other activities added to
the Week, including a Manufacturers of the Future/STEM event, a Best of British Showcase, a cyber zone, and more. Sign up for email notifi cations or follow the event on social media, because more details will be revealed soon.
Haf Cennydd, Portfolio Director for M&E Week, said: “We see M&E Week as being a festival and a celebration of the industrial sector. We are bringing the world’s most-established brands and startups together under one roof, and presenting them on diff erent stages and in diff erent ways – just as Glastonbury does with its established headline acts and its new, breaking act areas. We will also be showcasing creativity and presenting things which will have our visitors say: “Well, I didn’t expect to see that!”.
