In response to customer demand and increased awareness of the threats posed by both indoor and outdoor pollution, Ashtead Technology has added the ‘AreaRAE Steel’ to its fleet of air quality monitors. “With the ability to either rent or sell instruments, we are often the first point of call when customers have a new or expanded monitoring requirement,” said Ashtead’s Josh Thomas. “Increasingly, we are being asked for devices with multiparameter capability, so that their use is not restricted to one specific job. As a portable battery- powered monitor with EX certification, the AreaRAE Steel is ideal for indoor, confined space
and outdoor applications where users need to be able to start monitoring quickly and simply. The AreaRAE Steel provides
measurements for a range of potential threats with a PID sensor for VOCs, an LEL sensor for combustible gases, an oxygen sensor, and two toxic gas sensors for Nitrogen Dioxide (0-20ppm) and Nitric Oxide. Housed in a rugged, stainless-
steel enclosure and capable of running for up to 18 hours on a single charge, the AreaRAE Steel has a built-in logger that can store up to 20,000 readings. The instrument is able to issue audible, visual and remote alarms for %LEL (lower explosion limit), TWA (time weighted average) and STEL

The gauge uses Rosemount pressure sensor technology to deliver reliable pressure readings. PERMANENT, NON-CONTACT TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENT
RS Components (RS) has launched a new RS Pro low-cost and high-performance infrared temperature sensor. Available at what is said to be an attractive price, key features of the device include its small size – 31mm diameter x 30mm high – and side-entry cable, which makes it suitable for mounting in areas were space is limited. Other features include fast 125ms response time, built-in temperature display and controls. The device is essentially a non-
contact thermometer that is designed to measure temperature from a distance. Its suitable for temperature monitoring functions in applications where contact sensors are unsuitable, such as
when the target object is moving or inaccessible, or when a fast response time is required. Use of the sensor’s analogue voltage output enables the setting of alarms, or connection to a data logger for quality checking. Although the new unit is similar
in operation to handheld temperature measurement guns, the RS Pro device is intended as a permanent measurement unit for fixed mounting via a bracket, for example to install on manufacturing machinery to measure product temperature, or to monitor the condition of machine parts. Key industrial application examples include: product temperature measurement in paper and cardboard manufacturing, food processing, and pharmaceuticals, as well as condition monitoring on mechanical or electrical equipment.

Monitran hs launched a new model in its MTN/8006 range of signal conditioners. The MTN/8006TC temperature signal conditioning unit converts the voltage output from a temperature sensor to an industry standard current output. The MTN/8006TC accepts a
10mV/˚C temperature input in the 0- 100˚C range and converts it to a 4- 20mA output proportional to temperature. The signal can be read by PLCs for example or by Monitran's MTN/5032 condition monitoring system, which can also accept multiple inputs from Monitran's wide range of accelerometers. Available in a universal DIN rail form factor, the unit measures 62.5mm x 63.5mm x 18mm and requires a 24V DC power supply. The 4-20mA signal is more robust
than the output direct from the temperature sensor and is capable of being transmitted over long distances without being degraded by interference from electrical machinery for example.
