chip’ biosensing for early heart disease diagnosis’. Liam Blunt, from Huddersfield University spoke about ‘In-process Detection of Micro/Nano Scale Defects in Roll 2 Roll Manufacture of Printed Electronics’. Dr Michael Cooke, Experimental Officer from School of Engineering and Computing Sciences at Durham University gave a talk on Device Development of Micro and Nanostructures on Paper Substrates. Commenting on the show, Dr Cooke

said: “Micro Nano MEMS 2016 show brought together academia and industry at an excellent venue with good travel links. A wide variety of both equipment and process suppliers were in attendance and it provided a good showcase for them and useful for end user discussions. A series of seminars were held which

icro Nano MEMS exhibition and conference returned to the NEC,

Birmingham on 28th & 29th September 2016. Visitors and industry professionals were treated to an exciting array of exhibitors, covering the full spectrum of micro, precision, MEMS and nano manufacturing solutions, from micro moulding to electroforming, photonics to precision stamping and much more besides. Aaron Johnson, vice president of

marketing & customer strategy at Accumold said: “We have been coming to the Micro Nano MEMS exhibition for many years and it has always proved a valuable part of our sales and marketing effort. We have met some fascinating people over the years, many of whom have turned into customers.” Helen Royal, business development

manager for Plasma Therm said: “It’s definitely been worth coming, see you next year!” Also speaking about the event Marcos

Sampaio, technical manager for Celoplás said: “We’ve had some interesting visitors and we’re looking forward to catching up with them after the show.” Speaking on behalf of IDB

Technologies, Stuart Drummond said: “It’s our first time here so we weren’t sure what to expect. Our organisation has gone through some huge changes over the past year, so part of the reason for being here is to increase brand awareness and it’s been very good for that. We’ve had some good enquiries.” The Micro Nano MEMS seminar

programme boasted high quality presentations from key industry experts, including Dr Daniel J. Thomas from Yale School of Medicine, who gave a talk on ‘Silicon nano-sensor and printed electronics integration in ‘future lab on a

allowed specific companies, suppliers and end users to discuss their work or equipment sets. This provided a useful forum for discussions and highlighting work and capabilities. This event is essential for boosting collaboration and providing a forum for the Micro/Nano MEMS community as a whole. Other presentations included: Recent

Advances in High Precision Laser Micromachining; Precision actuation with a focus on piezo; A Practical Guide to Laser Micro-Manufacturing, MEMS and MEMS processing, among others.

GROWING FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH Event manager Jacqui Henderson said: “This was my third year of working with the exhibitors at the Micro Nano MEMS show in Birmingham, which every year has gone from strength to strength. This exhibition is the only one of its kind in the UK, with an outstanding calibre of exhibitor and an unparalleled seminar programme. It was great to see past and new businesses from the field showing ongoing support for the event and in turn the industry! “Finally – a message to thank all of you

who visited the show this year – I hope you enjoyed the event as much we did! See you again next year on the 26th and 27th of September in hall 3A, co-located with Sensors and Instrumentation, TCT, PPMA and of course next year, Interplas!”
