ULTRA-NARROWBAND RADIO MODULES
To help support advancing technology in wireless communication system design and installation, Solid State Supplies is now offering the RC17xxHP series from Radiocrafts. Supporting +27dBm transmission power and +118dBm receiver sensitivity, these devices have a line-of-sight range reaching up to 20km. In use reliable,
fully encrypted radio links can be established, with a maximum data rate of 100kbps. The energy efficiency of these units is another key factor. At full transmission power, they only draw 407mA of current and when sleep mode is activated their current consumption is a maximum of 2.0uA. These ultra-narrowband units are suited to a wide variety of modern
industrial applications - including telemetry systems, process monitoring, industrial remote controls, automatic meter reading, crane manoeuvre, logistics/asset tracking and fleet management. They cover all sub-1GHz ISM bands (169MHz, 433MHz, 868MHz, etc.), plus certain specific national bands (such as 444MHz, 458MHz and 465MHz). The inclusion of an embedded RC232 bi-directional radio protocol means RC17xxHP modules can support both point- to-point and point-to-multipoint operation. This also enables a 128byte data buffering capability. The selectivity and blocking mechanisms utilised by these units gives them heightened interference robustness. Members of the RC17xxHP series each come in a compact surface mount
package, with a footprint that measures only 12.8mm x 25.4mm. They are compliant with ETSI’s EN 300 220, EN 301 489 and EN 60950 standards.

IC SUPPORTS BLUETOOTH LE 4.2
Toshiba Electronics Europe has enhanced its dual-mode Bluetooth Classic and Bluetooth Low Energy IC technology to offer Bluetooth LE4.2 (BLE 4.2) functionality. The dual-mode TC35661-551 simplifies the secure system design of a variety of Bluetooth-enabled products ranging from smartphone accessories and toys to healthcare equipment. These devices enable secure connections based around ECDH (Elliptic Curve
Diffie-Hellman) public key cryptography, a technology adopted by the Bluetooth 4.2 standard. This additional security provides a very high degree of protection against ‘passive eavesdropping’ attacks. Because the TC35661-551 incorporates both the Serial Port Profile (SPP)
required for Bluetooth Classic communication and the Generic Attribute Profile (GATT) used for BLE, the IC supports high-speed serial communication (SPP) as well as all kind of BLE applications.

POLYMER ALUMINIUM CAPACITOR
A polymer aluminium capacitor (PAC) has been developed by Murata in a B case size (EIA 1411) - claimed to be a world’s first in this size. The smaller PAC is primarily intended for use in mobile devices such as laptop PCs, thin televisions and AV equipment. As electronic devices have
become smaller, thinner and faster, the need for a physically smaller capacitor for smoothing the inputs and outputs of power
circuits has become greater. Until now tantalum capacitors have been the main choice in the B case size, but the new B case size PACs are another choice with desirable low ESR characteristics. To meet this need, Murata
developed its smaller PAC, ECNSB41C336M040L. The new capacitor also offers 1050
C
durability, 16V rated voltage and 33uF capacitance.
