ULTRA HD FOR CARS The new generation of graphic display controllers


Driven by the development of consumer displays and customer expectations, the trend towards ever-higher resolution displays for automotive applications continues unabated. At the same time, it is necessary to operate multiple high-resolution displays from one device by consolidating control units. This increases not only the requirement for a highly integrated HMI computer, but also poses new challenges for networked displays. For the first time, the new SC1701 Remote Display Controller series by Socionext provides in-vehicle solutions with 4k displays, HDR support and image/data communication of up to 12Gbit/s. Like both of its predecessors, the new


graphics display controller uses a robust high-speed video link to ensure the display of content on one or multiple displays with different resolutions up to 4K (ultra HD). In order to be able to guarantee the necessary high transmission rates, Socionext uses the new APIX3 interface from Inova Semiconductor as a video link. With a bandwidth of up to 12Gbit/s for uncompressed video and control data, this video link meets the requirements. Alternatively, the data rate can be increased up to 28Gbit/s with the help of the VESA DSC compression method. In addition to the APIX3 video high speed link, a 187.5 Mbit/s sideband link is available for control data.
