MANUFACTURING

Everything under one roof at Southern Manufacturing & Electronics

Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2024, the most comprehensive annual engineering show to take place in the UK, will open its doors from 6th to 8th February and the buzz surrounding its approach is palpable. Celebrating its 27th year, this flagship event has evolved from humble beginnings in 1997 into one of Europe’s premier showcases for engineering excellence.

E

nquiries and stand bookings from overseas have boosted the number of exhibitors, placing the show firmly on the international stage. Towards the end of last year, the organisers expanded the footprint to accommodate the increased demand. Even so, the event is a sell-out again, as last time when well over 9,000 engineers, managers and others witnessed what 600 supplier companies on 460 stands had to offer.

The expo witnesses the convergence of mechanical engineering and the electrical/ electronic sector in approximately equal measure. Unlike other shows, it seamlessly integrates these two disciplines, allowing visitors to traverse between stands and discover everything on their shopping list, as well as innovative ideas that they were perhaps not expecting.

Having moved to its present location in 2008, Southern was the first event to be held in the world-class Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre when the complex was completed in 2018. The expo has blossomed there into a vibrant melting pot of industry giants and small to medium- sized enterprises. The show’s commitment to open access ensures balanced representation for all.

It is the venue of choice for anyone involved in design, production, or procurement to see all the latest in SMT, PCB design, contract electronics manufacture, box build, electro-mechanical systems, components and assemblies, automation and robotics, test, measurement, inspection, and metrology. Other technologies will include engineering and business software, 3D printers, controls, displays, HMIs, and data acquisition systems.

Additional products and services on offer will encompass industrial flooring, workshop equipment, labelling systems, signage, dust and fume extraction, humidity control, workplace storage, bespoke case and foam manufacture, plastic packaging and injection moulding, hand tools, adhesives, waste removal and recycling, freight services and training. The event is also an important destination for sourcing subcontract services, while providers of business consultancy and financial services will similarly outline how they can help industrial companies to prosper in these difficult times.

The unique atmosphere created by this diverse mix of exhibitors under one roof has contributed to a high rate of return bookings. Many participants have been
