New iNitiative briNgs together machiNe builders, software aNd automatioN techNologies to address maNufacturiNg challeNges

Meet at the Machine is a new initiative from Siemens that is designed to bring together machine builders, software and automation technologies to accelerate innovation across the machine tool industry and help manufacturers achieve productivity faster. According to the company, Meet at the Machine provides a framework

for Siemens and machine builders to jointly deliver integrated machining solutions that address real manufacturing challenges. The initiative is designed to make manufacturing customers more productive and enhance quality and performance. It brings engineering software, automation hardware and machine expertise together in one solution, helping machine builders deliver differentiated value. Siemens believes the next step in machining innovation is creating a

continuous digital thread that connects engineering, programming, virtual validation and execution to deliver next-level productivity starting from the first machine power-on. By improving the flow of data across the part manufacturing lifecycle, organisations can reduce complexity, accelerate ramp-up and create a foundation for continuous improvement. “Manufacturing truth has always ultimately been at the machine,” said

Mark Hindsbo, head of operations software at Siemens. “By bringing together engineering software, automation hardware and machine expertise, we enable our customers and users to be productive faster, accelerate return on investment and reduce ramp-up time by up to 50%.” Built in collaboration with TRAK Machine Tools, the first phase of this

initiative is focused on enabling part manufacturers to be productive from day one. It addresses one of the most common challenges manufacturers face when purchasing a new machine: the time required to move from machine delivery to productive machining. The solution combines software, automation

develops full-colour oled microdisplays

Scientists at the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems IPMS have developed a full-colour OLED microdisplay based on a 28nm CMOS process, which is highly efficient and features smallest pixels. The new microdisplays are said to be ideally

suited for use in augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality glasses. Thanks to their high resolution and efficiency, they can also be used for portable devices and applications that require superior image quality with a small form factor microdisplay. The displays are manufactured using a state-

of-the-art 28nm CMOS process. The flexible backplane architecture combines two driving concepts: frame-based (for continuous updates) and memory-based (for static content). Full- colour RGBW pixels are created by an integrated White Calculation Block in the backplane, which calculates the white subpixel from standard RGB image data. The extremely small subpixel size of 2.52 × 2.52 µm² enables exceptionally high pixel densities of up to 5040 PPI. “Compared to conventional microdisplays,

the new solution offers significantly lower power consumption, and ultra-high resolution. The flexible driving modes allow both rapid video playback and extremely energy-efficient display of static images, making the displays ideal for battery-powered, lightweight devices, with extended runtime,” explains Philipp Wartenberg, head of department IC & System Design at Fraunhofer IPMS.

and machine expertise into a connected workflow that allows manufacturers to program, simulate and validate production while a machine is still being built. “When our customers invest in a new machine, their goal is to achieve

productivity and business results as quickly as possible,” said Steve Pinto, president, TRAK Machine Tools. “Meet at the Machine creates a new model for collaboration focused on customer outcomes, and we are proud to be the first partner helping bring this vision to life.” Through the initiative, Siemens plans to work with machine builders

to develop future solutions that address key manufacturing challenges through collaborative innovation.

elmo motioN coNtrol’s titaNium servo drives gaiN fuNctioNal safety certificatioN

Elmo Motion Control has completed Functional Safety certification for its Titanium line of servo drives. The certification covers Elmo’s Titanium servo drives for both industrial and harsh-environment applications, providing machine builders and system designers with advanced Functional Safety integrated directly into compact, high- performance servo technology. The certified Functional Safety

architecture includes 20 Safety Functions and supports safety

levels up to SIL 3 (EN 61508), PL e, CAT4 (EN ISO 13849), and FSoE (IEC 61784-3), addressing the stringent safety requirements of advanced industrial machinery and motion applications. Ronen Boneh, CEO of Elmo Motion Control, said: “Safety is no longer an add-on to high-performance

motion; it has become a core element of the servo-drive architecture. By combining this proven safety expertise with Titanium’s exceptional power density, intelligence, and compact design, we enable machine builders to create smaller, smarter, safer, and higher-performing machines.” The certified Titanium servo-drive portfolio includes industrial environment products: • Titanium Castanet / Titanium Solo Castanet – compact dual-axis servo drive delivering up to 1.2 kW per axis, 2.4 kW total, 2 x 15A (Cont), 30A (Peak), up to 100V.

• Titanium Harmonica – high-performance dual-axis servo drive delivering up to 2.5 kW per axis, 5 kW total, 2 x 25A (Cont), 50A (Peak), up to 100V or 2 x 15A (Cont), 20A (Peak), up to 200V.

Special technology (Harsh) environment: Designed for extreme operating conditions, Elmo’s Titanium harsh-environment servo drives use

specialised components engineered to maintain reliable, high-performance motion control under environmental extremes, including extreme temperatures and other challenging operating conditions. • Titanium Lizard / Titanium Solo Lizard – compact servo drive engineered for harsh and demanding environments, delivering up to 1.2 kW per axis, 2.4 kW total, 2 x 15A (Cont), 30A (Peak), up to 100V.

• Titanium Falcon – high-performance harsh-environment servo drive engineered to deliver up to 2.5 kW per axis, 5 kW total, 2 x 25A (Cont), 50A (Peak), up to 100V or 2 x 15A (Cont), 20A (Peak), up to 200V.
