FASTENINGS & ADHESIVES
NEW HIGH STRENGTH SCREWS FOR A VARIETY OF APPLICATIONS
TR Fastenings has launched the Plas-Tech 30-20 screws range. Added to the company’s popular Plas-Tech range, the Plas-Tech 30-20 has an optimised thread profile which gives an advanced performance in a wide variety of plastic materials. Suitable applications are in the automotive, tech & infrastructure, and health & home markets. According to TR, these have been
developed to offer several advantages over conventional thread-forming screws in plastic, such as: a 20% finer pitch and lower flank angle to improve axial resistance; a reduced thread angle to lessen axial displacement; up to 25% higher thread fill to improve maximum joint strength; and a smoother installation that heightens resistance to vibration. Key features of the Plas-Tech 30-20 include: • Minimal radial stress: The faceted thread profile directs material flow to reduce radial stress. • Superior vibration resistance: The full engagement of the self-locking, angled thread design avoids loosening. • High torsional strength and tensile strength: A large core thread profile provides high strength. • Optimal thread pitch: Ensuring fastener engagement with a minimum number of rotations, keeping installation times to a minimum. • High reusability: The fastener can be removed and re-installed a number of times. The Plas-Tech 30-20 screw range includes pan head, flange head and countersunk
head varieties. Thread diameters are 3mm, 4mm, 5mm and 6mm, and available lengths range from 6mm to 30mm. The innovative design allows for the screw threads to displace the surrounding plastic, in the process strengthening the fix. The screws can be installed with a calibrated pneumatic or electric driver and are particularly suited to robotic assembly processes. Furthermore, the screws can be reused many times over.

MILD-HYBRID BATTERY RANGE 48-volt batteries can reduce vehicle carbon emissions by up to 15%. With this in mind, Bosch offers a powerful solution with its mild-hybrid battery – and an adhesive from DELO plays a substantial role in its integration. The adhesive has good thermal conductivity of 1.0 W/(m·K), meaning that battery cells can not only be bonded into the battery housing but the heat generated during operation can also be dissipated efficiently. As a result, the adhesive combines structural bonding and thermal management system mounting in one step – instead of having to manually fix battery cells and then use gap fillers for heat dissipation. Specially developed for Bosch, the adhesive is flame-
retardant in accordance with UL 94 V-0, designed for the entire temperature range of the battery, and offers high strength on battery cells and typical housing materials. Its tensile shear strength on aluminium is 18N/mm². It has also been optimised for manufacturing processes; is easy to detect through cameras; and allows precise application control. The Bosch battery measures just 140mm in height, meaning
it can be placed in discreet places such as the boot or under the passenger seat. Bosch has worked with partners to develop particularly robust lithium-ion cells which can work in temperatures of up to +75˚C. Thanks to their greater heat resistance, a simpler cooling concept is possible. By supplementing power to the internal combustion engine, they help reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

BESPOKE ADHESIVE SYSTEM BOOSTS PRODUCTION SPEED FOR MANUFACTURER
One of the products manufactured by NEL Technologies required the bonding of a sensor onto an aluminium plate. To avoid the adhesive spilling over the sensor or plate, however, the company was administering the adhesive with a cocktail stick – and this was not ideal in terms of repeatability, accuracy and reliability. The solution and process chosen to best achieve this was to dispense a 1mm diameter drop of LOCTITE 460 Cyanoacrylate Adhesive for each application. LOCTITE engineer John McCafferty devised a bespoke
system to ensure the accurate and precise control of adhesive flow, using automated application. The
ALUMINIUM CLAMPING BOLT LAUNCHED
An aluminium clamping bolt, which provides secure and powerful clamping for workpieces with regular and irregular outer contours, has been launched by norelem. Suitable for disproportionate,
round, oval, square or even pentagonal metal components, the flexible clamping bolts offer users a quick setup that can be fastened to a machine table with T-slots or directly in a threaded bore. Used in conjunction with norelem’s

clamping screw with clamping ring (04395-11) which can be safely screwed from the top into the flexible clamping bolt, users can avoid scratching or damaging metal components thanks to its soft, replaceable brass material. This is available in two forms: Form A has a standard screw with a low-profile screw head, while Form B has a mounted screw suitable for large series and a flattened
solution combines the LOCTITE Auto Reservoir, LOCTITE 300D Robot, and LOCTITE EQ VA40 CA Volumetric Valve. Together, this guarantees the perfect measure of LOCTITE 460 is applied every time. Alongside doubling production speeds, the method
reduces the amount of adhesive used, minimising wastage and scrapped product. So impressed was the company that it purchased a

clamping ring for quick workpiece removal. To use the system, users can simply slide the individual bolts into the T-slot of the machine table without a clamping screw and manually position them as a stop against the workpiece to secure the component in place. Once the flexible clamping bolts are tightened, they can simultaneously serve as both a support and a precise positioning of the workpiece. The flexible clamping bolt is available in heights of 50mm and 80mm with a range of 5mm to 25mm. Users can also expand the clamping range to 20 to 40mm, or 40 to 60 mm, using norelem’s clamping extensions (04395-13).
