NEW SOLUTION FOR I/O MACHINE TO DRIVE CONNECTIVITY LAUNCHED PRODUCTS MACHINE BUILDING, FRAMEWORKS & SAFETY
sponsored by Feature
New from Control Techniques is the SI-I/O 24 Plus, a simple yet cost- effective option module that provides a plug-in high density I/O expansion solution for its dynamic Digitax HD servo drives and high performance Unidrive range. According to the company, this
offers a convenient solution for drive-based machine control using conventional I/O rather than the networked method. Drives can be mounted close to the machine which avoids the need for an expensive PLC, remote I/O or a complex software solution.
COMMUNICATION WIRELESS
Pedrini, the manufacturer of natural stone processing plants and machines, has integrated CoreTigo’s IO-Link Wireless devices into its machinery, gaining the benefits of this industrial-grade wireless communication. Pedrini’s SPECTRA B220 planetary
calibrating machine is designed for thickness grinding of natural stone slabs, with its calibrating unit composed of numerous spindles equipped with diamond tools. Optimal machine performance relies on
real-time accurate reading and control of the current of each spindle while in high-speed operation. To help, CoreTigo’s IO-Link Wireless communication is monitoring the spindles. This replaces the need to run communication cables from the spindles through the slip rings of the calibrator and to the PLC. The deployment’s complexity is reduced with an IO-Link Wireless Bridge (CoreTigo’s TigoBridge) connected to a multiport I/O Hub that communicates current data from eight spindles simultaneously (48 spindles per machine with six TigoBridges). A single IO- Link Wireless Master (CoreTigo’s TigoMaster) collects all the data from the Wireless Bridges on the machine over the air, and communicates it directly to the PLC. The data is visualised on the HMI and enables real-time machine calibration and optimisation. The use of IO-Link Wireless communication
allowed Pedrini to switch from high-cost communication slip rings on the calibrators to smaller and more cost-effective slip rings.

In addition, the SI-I/O 24 Plus provides a
perfect migration path for machines controlled by Epsilon EP Servo drives, enabling them to be upgraded to the latest high performance Digitax products for improved
productivity and accuracy. There is no need
to completely re-wire when retrofitting machines, the company explains, as the new drive motion control can be configured using the PowerTools Studio, Motion Made Easy software environment. Furthermore, no expensive motion solutions that require licensing and resource-heavy complex
programming is needed, the company adds. Providing 16 digital inputs (eight high speed), eight digital outputs and an incremental encoder input (AB Servo), the SI-I/O 24 Plus is accompanied by a DIN rail mountable HD44 breakout terminal interface board, and HD44 cable. This package provides all the hardware required to conveniently upgrade to Control Techniques’ latest servo product lines. The SI-I/O 24 Plus targets servo-centric
industries including packaging, material handling, and automated assembly.

CABLE CARRIERS FOR STRAPPING MACHINES USED IN TOUGH ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Plastic or metal strapping is used to reliably secure goods for shipment and this is often achieved with a fully automated strapping system at the end of the production line. A strapping system could, for example, be used for packaging slit coils made of steel, copper or other metals. These coils usually weigh several tons and are secured to the pallets individually or in stacks. In preparation for transport, the split coils move through two strapping systems, where steel straps are first placed around the outer circumference and then applied several times through the coil eye. The strapping unit is flexibly mounted on a boom. This unit also securely fastens the applied plastic or steel ‘rings’, for example using contactless TIG welding with a tungsten electrode and inert gas. In addition to the cables for the drive motors, the strapping unit on the boom also has to be supplied with the inert gas for the integrated welding system. Here, KABELSCHLEPP Metool’s steel cable carriers from the S/SX or LS/LSX series provide perfect protection for the cables and gas hoses and allow all media to be guided together. The length, width and exact configuration of the cable carriers can be adapted precisely to the specifications of the system at hand. While steel is often the favoured cable carrier for such an application as the systems are used in
tough conditions, plastic cable carriers – such as the ROBOTRAX series – are also suitable. KABELSCHLEPP steel cable carriers were developed specifically for extensive unsupported
lengths with high mechanical loads or cables and hoses with a high dead weight. KABELSCHLEPP Metool

Featuring fully programmable display units with graphics, diagnostics, and CAN gateway capabilities, Parker Hannifin’s IQAN-MD5 family is now available in 5in and 8in sizes and will soon include sizes of 10.1in and 12.3in in a wide format. The rugged mechanical design of the IQAN-MD5 displays, with no moving parts and complete sealing, ensures durability in challenging environments. An optically bonded display glass enhances readability, eliminates light refraction, and prevents condensation, providing a clear and reliable interface. Advancements offered by the range include a 300% increase in platform performance with four core processors
and faster DRAM, improved graphics performance and support for Parker’s IQANdesign
ecosystem (7.02) for application development, and scalable design with advanced graphical displays. According to the company, the touchscreen interface, along with IP camera support, improves user
experience and eliminates the need for separate camera monitors; while flexible mounting options allow for either integrated flush mounts or standalone configurations compatible with RAM mount components. The expanded choice of display unit dimensions is designed to addresses a variety of applications, particularly in the field of control systems for off-road vehicles and mobile machinery.
