UK MANUFACTURED ALTERNATIVE TO OBSOLETE ITW MCMURDO CONNECTORS RED RANGE

The new LMR Range of rugged rack and panel connectors from Weald Electronics is a direct alternative to the now obsolete ITW McMurdo Connectors Red Range, which is widely used in blind mating applications. Designed as a line-to-line or panel connector, these feature a polarised, self-aligning and low

insertion force blind-mate plug and socket arrangement, suiting them to inaccessible applications. In addition, these have a current rating of 5A, meeting growing requirements for high-power, high-reliability electrical systems. The connectors are moulded in the higher-

temperature DAP (Diallyl Phthalate resin) material only and are fully back-compatible with the ITW McMurdo Connectors Red Range in both Nylon and DAP. DAP offers many excellent physical properties such as electrical insulation, heat resistance, water resistance, chemical resistance and ease of moulding, and proved a popular choice in the former ITW McMurdo Connectors Red Range. All Weald Electronics products are available from franchised distributor, Lane Electronics.

DUAL-ROW INVERTED THROUGH-BOARD CONNECTORS

KYOCERA AVX has expanded its line of single-piece card-edge connectors with the 9159-600 Series dual- row, inverted through-board card-edge connectors. An extension of the 9159-500 Series, these feature

staggered contacts that enable double the number of positions (4–12 vs. 2–6) in a similarly sized form factor and deliver valuable space savings, cost savings, and high-reliability performance. The 9159-600 Series also offers other features beneficial for applications with perpendicular PCB mating requirements, including automotive, transportation, industrial and medical applications. For example, its high-strength, gold-over-nickel-plated beryllium copper (BeCu) contact system provides a full 2.5A per contact current rating for enhanced reliability in harsh environments. Its low-profile through- board design supports applications with minimal height constraints on the mating side of the PCB and doesn’t interfere with LEDs. In addition, its staggered contact configuration prevents shorting and contact damage when inserting and removing mating PCBs, and it is approved to UL1977 safety standards. The connectors are designed for 1.6mm-thick mating PCBs with gold-plated pads and rated for 2.5A

per contact, 300VAC, 10 mating cycles, and operating temperatures extending from -40˚C to +125˚C. Kyocera

www.kyocera-avx.com NEW CAT6 IDC CONNECTOR LAUNCHED

A CAT6 Insulation Displacement Connector (IDC) has been added to Cliff Electronics’ Feed Through connectors range. The new connectors provide a panel mounted Ethernet (RJ45) 8-way connector, commonly used in network applications, that users can hardwire internally using the IDC contacts at the rear. The IDC system is ideal for all on-site wiring in applications such as Ethernet networks, audio and broadcast. The new CAT6 IDC FT joins the range of Feed Through connectors from Cliff that can be assembled

into an industry standard 24mm diameter XLR connector panel cut-out in an enclosure or 19” rack panel. It is also available in the DualSLIM narrow mounting hole design for where space is limited or more connectors are required on the panel. Using industry standard panel cut-outs for their FeedThrough, Cliff simplifies system design and assembly, and improves system aesthetics. All other Cliff FeedThrough connectors use ready-made cables on either side of the panel when in use. The new CAT6 IDC version allows hardwired connections to be made. With the rear cover removed, connecting wires are pushed into the

corresponding numbered and colour coded slots and then terminated using an IDC tool, the cover is snapped back for safety and to provide a degree of strain relief to the cable. The IDC connection method guarantees each connection is made quickly, accurately and securely.

Cliff Electronics 44 DESIGN SOLUTIONS MARCH 2024 Cliffuk.co.uk SNAP-IN SERIES NOW

WITH OVERMOULDING binder has equipped its 709 and 719 snap-in series with a new overmoulding that supports single-handed mating and unmating, but also improves resistance to contamination. In instrumentation and

medical technology, it is often important to protect devices and their interfaces against contamination from the environment, so the triangular overmoulding design features no gaps, grooves or undercuts allowing dirt to accumulate. The connectors featuring snap-in locking

are characterised by high retention forces but can still be quickly mated and unmated. The products are available as male and female

cable connectors with or without strain relief. The 3- to 5-pole series have been designed for wire gauges up to 0.25mm2

(up to AWG 24) and

soldering or dip soldering termination. The IP40-protected products achieve a mechanical lifespan of 100 and more mating cycles.

HEAVY DUTY CONNECTOR RANGE

Amphenol distributor Inelco Hunter has announced the availability of the M12, heavy- duty HDM12 high-temperature connector. The HDM12 has been engineered for

harsh applications with elevated vibration – it has a Vibration Resistance of 20G as per SAE J2839 – and challenging environmental conditions. This offers an operating temperature range of -40˚C - 125˚C, a current rating of 4A, and a voltage rating of 50 VAC, 60 VDC. It is IP68 waterproof rated at 1M for 24 hours when in a mated condition, and salt spray rated for 240h in a mated condition. The Mechanical Shock rating is 50G as per SAE J2839. Approvals include UL1977 and IEC 61076-2-101. Suitable applications include heavy equipment, heavy-duty automotive, railway mass transit, factory automation, high- temperature manufacturing and any wet environment, including exposure to sea and spray.
