SMI CELEBRATES 30 YEARS OF MoD CAPABILITY APPROVAL
Scientific Management International (SMI) is celebrating 30 years of Ministry of Defence Capability Approval for the production of submarine pressure hull glands and polyethylene cable systems. “It’s been 30 years in the making, but 20,000 installations with no leaks is
quite the achievement,” said Glen Richardson, director of Engineering at SMI. “Receiving Ministry of Defence Capability Approval for an unbroken 30 years is a real recognition of the hard work, dedication, and ingenuity of our team. We are the only organisation worldwide to have achieved this, so it really does reflect our unwavering commitment to delivering excellence in everything we do, and reaffirms our position as a trusted and preferred partner to the Royal Navy and other organisations worldwide.”

THE LATEST IN MEDICAL DEVICE INNOVATION
The Alpha Wire EcoGen line signifies a groundbreaking advancement in medical device design, particularly in cable and connectivity solutions. In medical settings, where precision
and reliability are paramount, EcoGen stands out by offering unparalleled performance in diagnostics, cleanability, ease of use, and reliability. Through the innovative use of next-generation materials like mPPE thermoplastics, EcoGen achieves exceptional performance while simultaneously reducing size and weight compared to traditional cables. Compared to conventional wires and cables, they are up to 47% smaller and 65% lighter. As a result of the superior dielectric properties of mPPE, the wall thickness of the control cable can be reduced while maintaining the same electrical properties as a thicker PVC control cable. This reduction enhances device portability and efficiency, facilitating
better patient care. Furthermore, EcoGen products adhere to strict regulatory standards – they are free from halogens, phthalates, and heavy metals, ensuring safety for patients and the environment alike. With its wide temperature range, EcoGen proves adaptable to diverse industrial environments, further underscoring its versatility. In essence, the Alpha Wire EcoGen line not only pushes the envelope of medical device design but also prioritises sustainability and compliance with regulations. Contact Aerco for more information.
