FEATURE EXHIBITION PREVIEW

Advanced Engineering exhibition B

The Advanced Engineering show will be taking place on 30-31 October at the NEC, Birmingham

ringing together over 500 exhibitors from across the manufacturing and

engineering sector, Advanced Engineering will feature a number of show zones under one roof: Aero Engineering; Composites Engineering; Automotive Engineering; Performance Metals Engineering; Connected Manufacturing; and Medical Device Engineering.

INFORMATIVE FORUMS This year the event has secured a wealth of industry professionals to participate in forums that will discuss the latest innovations, technologies and key issues in the engineering industry. Speakers include representatives from Siemens Digital Industries, BAE Systems, McLaren Automotive and IBM Academy of Technology, as well as the Ford Motor Company, GKN, Johnson & Johnson, Honeywell, Williams Advanced Engineering and Prodrive. The Open Forum programme covers five

of the six show zone categories: connected manufacturing, aerospace, composites, automotive as well as medical device engineering, which is a new show zone and forum for 2019. Each forum includes a schedule that offers insight on important topics in the industry and counts towards Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for attendees. The connected manufacturing forum will cover

Industry 4.0 and data usage, while the aerospace engineering forum will discuss additive manufacturing applications and aerospace 4.0. The composites engineering forum will discuss next generation materials, the automotive engineering forum will showcase sustainable and additive manufacturing, and the medical device forum include sessions on wearable technology, cybersecurity and 3D printing.

THE EXHIBITION Among those exhibiting this year are Elesa. Visit the company’s stand for ideas about standard machine elements and to see flagship products such as the LM series stainless steel levelling feet with EHEDG certification. Elesa will also be demonstrating its GLA roller slide guides as well as VB three-arm hand knobs for clamping/ adjustment of equipment, MVAS safety vertical toggle clamps, and the UC-RF control unit which,

combined with DD series RF electronic position indicators, offers a PLC connected monitoring system which is suitable for applications that require frequent format changes. Micro-Epsilon UK will be showcasing its full

range of sensor technologies, including non- contact capacitive, eddy current and laser triangulation displacement sensors, as well as 2D/3D laser profile sensors, thermal imagers and colour sensors. Visitors can expect to see such products as the optoNCDT 1420 series of laser displacement sensors; and, for those with a need to measure colour, the stand will feature a demonstration of the colorCONTROL ACS7000, an inline high speed colour measurement system that measures the actual colour of the target by identifying their coordinates in the colour space. Visitors will also be able to see a demonstration of the colorSENSOR CFO200 and the gapCONTROL non-contact laser profile scanner. Another exhibitor is Colloids, a global supplier

of high quality black, white and coloured masterbatches, compounds and additives to OEMs, convertors, polymer producers and compounders. Stand visitors will be able to find out about the latest in-house R&D product innovations including the newly expanded range of T-TEC high temperature polymer masterbatch grades in Signal Warning Orange; and the low VOC black masterbatch which has been tested according to VDA 278 for automotive materials and meets leading global automakers’ emissions criteria for volatiles; as well as its laser marking compatible range. Pryor Marking Technology will be showcasing

solutions for identification and traceability, with a focus on laser marking. The company will be using the show to demonstrate its laser workstation – a large, modular, floor-standing laser engraving machine. Visitors will also get to see a demonstration of the portable laser and laser marking ‘on-the-fly’ unit, as well as the PortaDot P50-25 with 4000 Controller and PortaDot P130-30 for heavy industrial use. Telsonic UK, meanwhile, will feature a

comprehensive selection of sample parts, produced using the extensive range of ultrasonic systems and modules offered by the company. Representatives will also be on hand to discuss advanced ultrasonic processing in

plastic welding, metal welding, cutting, sealing, cut’n’seal, food cutting, packaging, sieving, and cleaning applications. According to TRUMPF, many decades of

experience in high-tech manufacturing combined with the breadth of its technology base and its huge commitment to R&D puts the company in a good position to support emerging trends with the best possible production solutions. Visitors to Advanced Engineering will learn about the latest TRUMPF developments for e-mobility that range from laser techniques that can weld all the seams on an electric motor in just one minute, to its TruConnect solutions. The company will also be introducing the TruMark Station 5000, which is suited to marking average to large batch sizes and components. A team of metal part heat treatment, PVD

hard coating and vacuum brazing experts will be sharing their knowledge with engineers on the Wallwork Group stand. Howard Maher, group sales manager, commented: “As heat treatment and hard coating specialists we can offer the design engineer a deep well of knowledge gained from years of experience in solving problems across industries such as aircraft manufacture, space vehicles, automotive, oil and gas equipment, medical devices – indeed almost all advanced metal part manufacturing, including additive. If at the design stage the engineer starts a conversation, ‘I’m trying to make/improve/ change...’ or ‘I need these properties from a component...’ with our heat treater surface engineers, the final result will often surpasses their expectation.” Other exhibitors this year will include: 3D

Rapid Print, Advanced Aerospace Assembly, Advanced Machine Systems, Applied Graphene Materials, Arconic Fastening Systems, Atlas Copco, CFP Composites, Clarenden Specialty Fasteners, Composites UK, Curtiss-Wright Surface Technologies, Delta Application Technics, European Springs & Pressings, Eurotherm by Schneider Electric, Exel Composites, Fitsco Industries, igus, IndySoft Europe, Intertek, Jet Press, Laser Lines, Mini Gears Group, Nord Composites UK, Oerlikon Balzers Coating UK, Pepperl+Fuchs, RDP Electronics, SMC Pneumatics, Tappex Thread Inserts, Westwind Air Bearings, plus many more.
