SUPPLEMENT ENCLOSURE & PANEL BUILDING SOLUTIONS 25 million boxes and counting C
hoosing an enclosure should be the easy part of any project, but often this is not so. Sometimes, left as a late decision, what should
be easy can become surprisingly problematic. What is needed is a company that knows enclosures inside and out. One UK manufacturer of custom plastic enclosures has sold over 25 million boxes to date and so perhaps can claim to be ahead of the pack. BCL Enclosures offers products manufactured from ABS, polycarbonate
and other plastic materials. The comprehensive ranges on offer include IP67 and IP66-rated enclosures, ideal for protecting electronics and e-mech installations from water and environmental contaminants; general purpose and multipurpose boxes; hand-held enclosures; potting boxes; instrument cases and speaker housings. What is perhaps more invaluable is the knowledge and advice that can be obtained from a UK company with this degree of expertise. Custom enclosures are something BCL specialises in – any of its extensive
ranges can be machined, drilled or punched to suit customer requirements. Additionally, most BCL cases can be moulded in a different material if required for specific applications. A quick glance through some recent and current customisation projects shows the breadth of services BCL can offer: • A customer that manufactures blinds for conservatories needed an enclosure to house the transformers for its electrically-operated blinds. The company chose the AB910W enclosure from the versatile AB range, which comes in matt finish ABS. Rugged but simple and unobtrusive, these enclosures are ideal for domestic, commercial and office applications. The lid is retained by four self tapping screws which can be inserted from either side and can be hidden by the matching plastic covers. Integral stand offs are provided in both halves of each box. Due to the need for cooling and ventilation in the environment found in
conservatories, BCL customises these enclosures with ventilation slots which keeps air flowing around the transformers.
• An automotive company has a large order with BCL and calls its custom enclosures off for delivery according to its manufacturing schedule, so ensuring that its custom enclosures are available in the desired quantities. Its enclosures are customised in several different ways, including having the automotive company’s logo embossed on each one.
• A manufacturer of specialist vehicle speaker systems used inside lorries and large commercial vehicles uses the GPL Series of potting boxes which BCL modifies to protect and house the electronics. The systems sound audible ‘this vehicle is reversing’ alerts, in multiple languages which are switched to the one required by the lorry company. BCL’s custom modifications include small holes for attachment and another for cables. For all customised enclosure requirements, BCL will advise, quote, supply
a sample of the unit and ensure that the modifications made exactly meet customer expectations, then a delivery schedule is agreed with the customer, including regular or call-off deliveries as needed. In addition to manufacturing and supplying modified enclosures, BCL can advise on specific enclosures for a huge variety of applications – all customers need to do is supply a sketch of possible modification(s) they require, and BCL will provide prototypes, so that customers with their own facilities can order unmodified enclosures and carry out the modifications in house. Over 200 RAL colour combinations are available, and BCL can arrange silk
screening of customers’ designs. BCL Enclosures’ ‘We love boxes’ philosophy ensures that customers experience a one-stop sourcing solution for virtually their every enclosure needs, backed by friendly and knowledgeable service.
