enables high precision distance, position and thickness measurements. With a diameter of just 12mm, the sensor


delivers a high resolution with an extremely small laser spot size of 10µm diameter. This is said to be ideal for high accuracy distance measurements on reflecting or transparent surfaces, plus one-sided thickness measurement of transparent film, plates or layers. As well as distance measurements on highly reflective, shiny surfaces, the sensors can also be used to measure on dark, diffuse materials. Typical applications include displays, smartphones, mirrors and glass production, and medical devices, but they are also suitable for vacuum applications in semiconductor and microelectronics production. The confocalDT IFS 2404-2 has a


measuring range of 2mm, resolution of 40nm and a linearity of ±1µm (for distance and displacement measurements) and ±2µm (for thickness measurements). Operating temperature range is from +5˚C to +70˚C. The sensor is compatible with all


confocal controllers from the Micro-Epsilon range. The confocalDT 2421 and 2422 controllers offer a cost effective solution for OEMs. The system works on a non-contact basis and is therefore wear-free; while the active exposure control of the CCD line allows fast, accurate compensation when measuring on different surfaces.

A COMPACT SERVO DRIVE SYSTEM FOR DRIVERLESS TRANSPORT SYSTEMS


New from Wittenstein is the iTAS servo drive system, aimed at the latest generation of driverless transport systems (DTS). According to the company the iTAS, which


offers efficiency and individual scalability, is a fully integrated modular servo drive system. The servo actuators of the iTAS system, the motor and the helical, low backlash, planetary gearbox combine to form coupling-free drive units, which provide a high torque, compact design, high tilting moments and a wide speed range. Despite its compact design, the entire system


can be individually scaled to suit different performance profiles. Furthermore, intelligent system components enable thoroughly safe vehicle concepts in a system. For example, the product can optionally be equipped with an additional encoder for speed control. Offered in a number of different power versions,


the drives are available with protection class IP20 with the power ratings 10, 15 and 50A; and IP65 with the power rating 10A.

DRIVES FOR HIGHLY DYNAMIC SERVO APPLICATIONS


Compact, flexible and powerful, KEB Automation’s COMBIVERT S6 range of high performance servo drives is suitable for a wide range of highly dynamic servo applications, including highly automated, safety-oriented machines. The compact drives provide optimal motor control in real time and integrated safety functionality. They are available in two different enclosure sizes across motor power sizes from 0.75kW up to 5.5kW or electrical currents from 2.6A to 12.0A, with overload to 250%. Furthermore, the drives can be customised to suit the application. Safety functionality can be selected from three modules. In addition to the control of widely-supported motor types


such as synchronous, asynchronous, permanent magnet and synchronous reluctance, the COMBIVERT S6 offers additional functions such as motor operation with encoder feedback or encoderless ASCL/SCL for precise speed control. LINEAR MOTORS WITH A MODULAR DESIGN


Dunkermotoren’s SA/SC 38 series are highly dynamic three-phase linear motors which deliver up to 3690N and accelerate at over 200m/s². The modular design is currently available as actuator version SA (with maintenance-free plain bearing system) and component version SC (for modules). With these, a standard water connection ensures cooling and doubling of the continuous force. In addition to the integrated SIN/COS linear encoder, further motor feedback variants (SSI, BISS & TTL) will be available in the future. Due to the encoder system (patent pending), commercially available servo controllers (up to 800V DC link voltage) can position the compact linear motor quickly, precisely and reliably. One of the main applications of the SA/SC 3806, 3810 or 3814 will be high-speed applications in the food and packaging industry.

CONNECTORS FOR SIGNAL, POWER AND HYBRID APPLICATIONS


Now available from TTI are Amphenol LTW’s X-Lok portfolio of connectors which are designed for signal, power and hybrid applications. The X-Lok devices are manufactured


using UL94V-0 and UL-f1-rated material to provide protection against UV exposure, and are IP68 rated to protect against jets of water and dust ingress. These feature a push lock mechanism, enabling blind mating for fast, simple and convenient installation, repair and maintenance in the field. According to the company, additional


ease-of-installation features include an easy-grip design to prevent the connector being accidentally dropped, and confirmation of correct mating position with audible feedback. Seals of different sizes can be easily identified as they are colour coded. The X-Lok Series is offered with a


large variety of receptacles. In addition, it can accommodate a wide range of wire and cables. Technical specifications include a voltage rating of 300V AC/DC (power) and current rating of 20A. Of further benefit, the contacts are silver plated copper alloy and the devices are suitable for a temperature range from -40˚C to +105˚C. Applications include industrial


and factory automation, marine electronics, LED lighting, renewable energy, IP CCTV and security, and rapid mass transport systems.
