EDITOR’S COMMENT & CONTENTS Energy cap comes as a short-term relief
W
hile still reeling from the death of a much- loved monarch in the same month as a new Prime Minister was installed, the nation must quickly get back to facing some difficult challenges. Spirally energy costs across the globe, exacerbated by the war in Ukraine, have reached critical proportions for businesses and householders alike. The new government’s energy package, which now includes a six-month cap for businesses, will come as some relief when many were concerned about steering their companies through the winter. Businesses have been given an emergency package of support which will significantly reduce the price of energy from October 1, thereby softening the blow for the short-term. It means companies, charities, public sector organisations and schools can breathe a sigh of relief at least in the next few months.
However businesses are not completely out of the woods and it still means they will have to find ways to tighten their belts.
Building services managers must look at every aspect of their daily use in order to find savings as currently there is no end in sight to the energy crisis. As usual, BSEE carries features which focus on
energy saving products and solutions designed to help business chart this troubled period. Energy savings can be found everywhere from smart lighting, right down to valves and fittings and there are plenty of ideas highlighted across this issue. Features covered in BSEE this month include CHP; Lighting & Controls; Fire, Safety & Security; Pipes, Valves & Fittings and Pumps, Waste Management & Water Treatment.
