PART L OPPORTUNITY FOR IDEAL HEATING CONDENSING BOILERS TO BOOST EFFICIENCY

s the new Part L Regulations cause a shake-up of whole building efficiency, including heating


requirements for buildings in England. Installers now must pay closer attention to the new changes that have come into force, in order to make new heating systems compliant. Following the implementation of the new rules Ideal Heating can confirm that their range of commercial condensing boilers conform to the new regulations, from a comfort, energy efficiency and compliance perspective. The range including the Evomax 2,


Imax Xtra 2, Imax Xtra EL and Evomod models all are all Part L ready and will help buildings to transition to low carbon heating in the future. Split into two volumes, the regulations section ADL2 concerns buildings other than dwellings, it requires where feasible that: ‘all parts of the system, including pipework and emitters, should be sized to allow the space heating system to operate effectively and in a manner that meets the heating needs of the building, at a maximum flow temperature of 55°C or lower.’ It’s not by chance that policymakers landed at this maximum flow temperature. This is closely linked


to the science that underpins condensing boiler technology, in turn offering buildings greater efficiency in their gas usage for heating and hot water. It also helps a building be ready to transition to low carbon heating in the future. Now, the new Part L revisions promote lower temperature flow rates, which enables condensing boilers to operate to the best of their capability. This is a great opportunity for customers. More efficient boilers mean less gas is needed for heating and hot water, helping organisations to reduce their direct emissions as they edge towards decarbonisation, and allowing businesses to save on their energy bills. Heat pumps for high outputs and high renewables

pumps has been specifically designed for systems with high outputs and a high proportion of renewable energies. Belaria® fit delivers efficient heating, cooling and domestic hot water production at the same time and can be used on its own or as part of a hybrid system. Up to 16 Belaria®


fit units can be combined in a cascade configuration, enabling outputs into the megawatt range. Belaria® fit is also well suited to use in a hybrid configuration, such as alongside a gas condensing boiler for use at peak demand to provide attractive price/performance ratios. The units are also easily retrofitted to existing heating systems. At the heart of the design is advanced, modulating inverter technology that enables continuous adjustment from 40-100% of load, ensuring optimum energy efficiency at all times. Additionally, the hydrophilic coating on evaporator fins maintains consistently high efficiency and shorter defrosting times.


Further efficiencies are achieved through the use of R32 refrigerant, which has a high volumetric refrigerating capacity and is ideally suited to the UK’s temperate climate. The result is high Seasonal Coefficient of Performance/Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SCOP/SEER) for heating and cooling. Consequently, systems with Belaria fit are considered sustainable and are eligible for subsidies. As a standalone (monovalent) system, Belaria® fit can provide outputs up to 1.4MW and up to 4MW in a hybrid system – depending on the required proportion of renewable energy.

PODCAST – IMPROVING FOOD PRODUCTIVITY WITH HUMIDITY


umidity control specialist, Condair, has released a new podcast about how food manufacturers can enhance their productivity by controlling their production area’s humidity.


In a 10-minute interview with BusinessNet Explorer, Dave Marshall-George, Sales Director at Condair, explains how paying more attention to a manufacturing or storage area’s ambient humidity, can improve manufacturing yield and profits. Dave explains, “Accurate humidity management in food and beverage production has many benefits. There are a huge range of applications. Humidification is frequently used to reduce evaporative losses, prevent static issues and extend shelf-life of produce. Dehumidification can be employed to more efficiently dry a product, eliminate condensation, reduce cold storage overheads or prevent products sticking to conveyors. “As a humidity control specialist, we work with food and beverage manufacturers to identify areas


of potential improvement across a production line, and then implement systems to maintain the ideal environment to realise those benefits. For example, we work in the meat sector to reduce evaporative losses from carcasses during primary chilling, with cheese manufacturers to reduce weight losses during cheese ripening, with bakers to optimise proving and oven baking, and distilleries and wine makers to prevent evaporation through casks.” In this podcast Dave provides an overview of the potential for productivity improvements in a variety


of applications and offers advice on how manufacturers might takes steps to start improving their processes. “Properly understanding the environmental profile of an area is key.” Dave continues, “This isn’t just an average temperature and humidity level in a room. It can include the micro-climate directly next to the product and being aware of any temperature differences between product and atmosphere. If a product is cooler than the air, this can lead to condensation, and if it’s warmer than the air, to moisture loss through evaporation. “Using multiple data loggers is a good idea to properly assess the atmospheric profile of an area. However, for any manufacturer interested in exploring how they might improve profits through improved humidity control, I’d recommend having a free site assessment from their local Condair sales engineer.
