Gilberts delivers five star service for Ensana’s first UK hotel
O
ne of Europe’s largest spa operators has opened its doors in the UK, with air quality delivered by Gilberts.
Plans to convert the Grade 1 listed Buxton
Crescent were originally conceived 16 years ago. Main contractor Vinci UK began serious work on site in 2016, restoring the building envelope, merging two buildings into one, and adding a roof top swimming pool extension to the Georgian property. Engineering services were provided by Imtech, who in turn utilised the expertise of Gilberts to deliver the ventilation element for the 81 bedroom hotel. “We expected from the outset that there
would be a lot of challenges with such a complex conversion,” observed Imtech mechanical engineer Peter Charles. “Gilberts is a trusted supplier, so why change, particularly on such a complex project? We knew Gilberts could and would deliver the high levels of service we needed.” Gilberts had to develop and supply
appropriate solutions to ensure adequate supply and extract to accommodate the diverse requirements of the main hotel reception, each of the bedrooms, the pool areas and plant. The main reception features GSL slot
diffusers, with a combination of 18no three slots each a metre long complimenting 4no six slot continuous runs, up to 17m long with plasterin frames to blend into the internal architecture. The first floor swimming pool’s ventilation needs have been met via 14no DI drum louvres, delivering high air volumes with a long throw and powerful stream of air to deal with the high levels of moisture.
Whether hospitals, hotels, residential developments or offices, pipe noise can be far costlier to fix postbuild than if addressed during planning. Building on the successful 30 year plastic lownoise legacy of the Wavin AS system, the new and improved Wavin AS+ solution provides advanced noise reduction in soil and waste systems. This new product significantly improves on
N The smaller relaxation pool is ventilated via
just two JN jet nozzles, each 400mm diameter, and the ladies pool achieves a comfortable air quality via 4no HHV heavy duty double deflection grilles. Gilberts fully coated and removed any mild
steel components from the aluminium pool grilles to ensure longevity in the aggressive chlorinated environment. In the bedrooms, a single supply and single
extract double deflection grille with opposed blade dampers in each ceiling provided individually adjustable ventilation. Behind the scenes, numerous FB700 door
transfer grilles and NV (non vision) were installed to maintain fire compartments, with FBL60 (one hour intumescent) fire blocks for optimum safety. On the roof, 3no penthouses, ranging from 1m x 1.5 to 6m x 1m, and each RAL coated to 7047, provide discreet, passive ventilation to the rooftop plant.

the existing AS range, with AS+ now reducing the noise level of soil & waste systems better than any other plastic pipe currently in the market. The new solution has a compact design ideal for small and narrow spaces, a unique material composition that delivers perfect sound absorption, and a patented blue seal that enhances leak and failureproof installation. All of these advancements aid the pipe’s ability to minimise noise pollution, as well as make installation as easy as possible.
Key features of Wavin AS+:
Supereasy installation: A sculptured spigot significantly reduces pushin force and the self lubricated blue seal ensures both quiet performance and supereasy installation.
Patented blue seal: With integrated lubrication, both the composition and shape of Wavin’s blue seal supports a leakfree, easy and failureproof installation.
Wavin Soundcheck Tool: To support the planning process, Wavin’s new Soundcheck Tool provides an easy sixstep way for meeting the latest in noise regulations, by simulating system acoustics in final installation.

WHAT’S NEW
Wavin launches new generation of low noise pipe systems: Wavin AS+
Karen Stables, marketing manager at Wavin said: “We’re extremely excited about this latest evolution of our AS range. We’ve invested a great deal of time effort in developing exactly the right materials and design. The Wavin AS+ represents a whole new level of performance for plastic lownoise soil and waste systems and an ideal solution for engineers and installers.”. While the new AS+ range is perfect for multi
residence projects, it is also suitable for a variety of other applications. Like other Wavin plastics, the material used is durable, corrosionresistant and able to withstand the chemical attack of all kinds of aggressive waste waters, meaning that more complex settings, such as commercial, healthcare and manufacturing projects, can also benefit from the low noise capabilities of the system.
