benefits of building with wood. Developed in partnership with the Technical University of Munich, the unique indepth literature review dissects the increasing volume of evidence in this field that proves wood to be a stand apart building material option. The analysis reviews multiple areas of

research, such as wood’s ability to reduce stress and boost productivity levels. One study saw participants experiencing a decrease in cortisol levels by 7.5%, implying a stress reducing effect , and another revealed students in wooden classrooms had

significantly lower heart rates and lower perception of stress . Hygiene is also covered, with studies showing Coronaviruses (SARS CoV2) applied to wooden surfaces can only be replicated for 12 hours, whereas on surfaces made of plastic, stainless steel, glass and masonry, the viruses remain multipliable for up to 96 hours . “Building with wood has many benefits, such as lowering environmental impact. But often underappreciated, is how it can improve health and wellbeing,” says Sebastian Hernandez, Building Concepts Manager, Building Solutions, Stora Enso Wood Products. “We hope that our study spurs an increased interest in research in the future.”

CHAS urges

construction industry to embrace Common Assessment Standard

Standard following the announcement of a data sharing agreement between the scheme’s providers. The Common Assessment Standard was launched in 2019 by Build UK, with the support of CECA, to replace multiple assessment schemes with one comprehensive industryagreed questionnaire. CHAS was the first Recognised Assessment Body to offer the Common Assessment Standard and it has fast become the industry’s gold standard for prequalification. The datasharing agreement, which was announced on 29th March, 2021, will ensure clients who specify the CHAS Common Assessment Standard can access a contractor’s prequalification data via any of the Recognised Assessment Bodies, regardless of who carries out the certification. It gives clients access to a greater range of contractors who meet the standard as well as saving contractors time and money as they will only need to undertake one annual assessment via CHAS. CHAS Managing Director Ian McKinnon

range of cable clips. The new firerated Metal Twin and Earth Cable Clips are 18th edition compliant and will sit within the growing Unicrimp QFire firerated range. The 18th Edition wiring regulations stipulate that cable support systems must be constructed with materials that will withstand premature collapse caused by direct exposure to heat. There are no applications excluded – trunking, conduit and cabling fixed to surfaces of the building or attached to cable support systems must all have fireresistant supports in place. These new additions provide installers with an expanded choice of fixing solutions,

suitable across a range of applications and environments – helping them to satisfy the latest wiring regulations. The new firerated T&E Cable Clips are manufactured from zinc plated carbon steel and are available in two sizes – 12.5mm and 46mm – and in a choice of uncoated or with a grey PPA LSF coating. The LSF coating provides long term protection for metal clips, as well as added protection for the cable during and after installation.

rowing demand for Covid19 social distancing warning devices has created a burgeoning new market OKW’s wearable enclosures.

OKW’s BODYCASE and awardwinning MINITEC enclosures are ideal

for proximitywarning electronics to help safeguard personnel in warehouses, distribution centres, factories and any other roles where working from home is impossible. BODYCASE is OKW’s first wearable enclosure designed to fit a

standard 18 mm watchstrap. It can also be worn on a lanyard, clipped to a belt or carried in a pocket. These robust enclosures have good ingress protection (IP 65). Their

easytoclean highgloss finish and tamperproof Torx assembly screws make them perfect for healthcare environments. BODYCASE comprises a UVstable ASA top (with/without recess) and base separated by a softtouch TPV sealing ring. The enclosures are available in three sizes (50 x 41 x 15 mm to 62 x 56 x 18 mm) in traffic white (RAL 9016) as standard. Accessories include a wrist strap (18 mm), spring bar tool, lanyard, hand strap, charging/data transfer stations, eyelet/pocket clip kit and a Torx T6 screwdriver. MINITEC won an iF product design award. Like BODYCASE, it can be

fitted to a wrist strap, lanyard, belt, key ring or carried loose. MINITEC is available in two versions: teardropshaped D (recessed) and rectangular E (with/without recess). Both versions comprise top and bottom sections (ABS or infrared permeable PMMA) separated by a choice of softtouch SEBS (TPE) intermediate rings, including one for USB connectors. The wide choice of shapes, sizes (51 x 32 x 13 mm to 84 x 53 x 19 mm), colours and intermediate rings creates a huge range of standard permutations. Accessories include wrist, hand and carrying straps/lanyards, a strap eyelet, key ring and USB cover.
