EDITOR’S COMMENT & CONTENTS Pump up the Heat!
f you tuned in to BBC Radio 2 recently you might have heard a fairly important topic of conversation… apart from Pop-Master, of course. Jeremy Vine recently opened up an on-air discussion about the rise of Heat Pumps in domestic buildings and of course the arguments flowed from both sides. The conversation began with Vine explaining the plan to ban the sale of gas boilers in the next four years- something that might seem like a good idea to anyone living near the catastrophic explosion in Lancashire last month. A few people sent messages in to express how happy they were with their new heat pumps, overjoyed with the change to their energy bills and

the positive impact they felt they were having on the environment. A few others called in to express their concern over the feasibility of a system that would have to switch between heating water and heating the house. The worries aired were a window into the mind of the UK’s domestic heating audience that our industry should be looking through keenly. Overcoming adversity is the first hurdle of any new technology being offered on a wide scale. People are always nervous of what they’re not used to, but that doesn’t mean the change isn’t for the better.
