SPONSORS INSTALLATION NEWS

The Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT) at Khorfakkan in the Sharjah Emirate have installed energy saving luminaires from Luceco.

The FType downlight family includes FType Fixed, FType Adjustable, FType Dim2Warm and FType Colour Change, all comprising of low glare crystalline lens and die-cast aluminum thermal rod heatsink, with speed and ease of installation guaranteed due to Clip & Fit and Speed Fit wiring.

FType is also I-Joist certified in accordance with BS 476-21 for 30 minute I-Joist ceiling applications. Super-efficient Samsung LED chips deliver 100Llm/cW, with FType also offering leading and trailing edge dimming compatibility as standard.

Luceco has just launched the new FType Compact Fire Rated Downlight offering IP65 on fixed optics, and compliance to Air leakage Part C and acoustic Part E of the building regulations, as well as a 5 year warranty. Specifically designed for low ceiling voids, this latest addition to the FType family combines premium features with a versatile slimline construction. Insulation coverable and offering a range of colour temperatures, the new compact FType is available in 4W and 6W options with Flat, Regressed or Adjustable optics.

A versatile lighting control system from CP Electronics’ RAPID range has been installed at Buildings I & II at the Cambridge Science Park.

The project consisted of providing lighting controls for the two buildings including the toilets, atrium and the multi-storey car park.

The concept for the offices was for a DALI fully addressable system which included open plan offices with presence detection and daylight harvesting. The toilets required presence detection to ensure energy saving, whilst the atrium required full lighting control that could be manually controlled. Finally, the car park needed a fully monitored system including emergency test and monitoring system.

CP Electronics Rapid Lighting Control System was chosen as it provided a tried and tested solution. Working closely with M&E Consultants Venables Associates, CP Electronics provided a full lighting control scheme, using lighting drawings supplied, which was submitted as a full technical submittal

and subsequently received full approval. CP Electronics also collaborated with electrical contractor Hilton Cannon Electrical with whom they had previously worked successfully with on several other projects on the Science Park. With lighting playing such a major role in the offices, CP Electronics’ RAPID system was installed to allow for scene setting, which ensures that each area provides the desired level of illumination. The open plan office spaces benefited from daylight harvesting, a key benefit of the RAPID system, which saves the maximum amount of energy by reducing the light output gradually in lighter areas near windows and increasing in darker areas, thus retaining comfort levels for occupants.

The opening of the Lotus School in Blackpool is a first in more ways than one. It is the first purpose built social environmental mental health school in the area. It is also the first in the area to be fitted with the first COVID compliant hybrid ventilation.

The £4.5m project, funded by the Department of Education’s Free Schools Funds for Special Education Provision, was commissioned through self- delivery by Blackpool Local Educational Partnership and Eric Wright Special Projects, to achieve better value than arranging out-of-area transport for pupils who need special educational support.

The main teaching classrooms and sports hall are all aired using Gilberts (Blackpool) Ltd’s innovative MFS hybrid ventilation units, installed by Read & Errington. In total, 24no MFS 128 units have been fitted through the two-storey façade into the classrooms, with a further three

MFS-V roof-mounted units to the sports/main hall.

Since its launch, MFS has become the product of choice for ventilation in schools, combining natural ventilation with a heat exchanger to minimise energy wastage by extracting, via a low energy fan and mixing damper, the warmth from the ‘used’ internal air being exhausted and transferring it to the cooler fresh incoming air. MFS delivers 8l/s ventilation, exceeding as standard

Government COVID requirements of 5l/s. As it is a stand-alone unit with no connections to other zones within the building, cross- contamination risk is almost eliminated.

Thorn and Zumtobel Lighting put Cleveland Police firmly in control

Zumtobel Group with its lighting brands Thorn and Zumtobel have managed to supply and deliver luminaires and lighting controls with minimal disruption for the offices of The Police and Crime Commissioner for Cleveland at St Marks House in Stockton on Tees.

Omega Pro 2 Bluetooth has been installed in the main offices to enable users to personalise their lighting, from the lit effect to the colour temperature of the room. Thorn’s C-Kit accessory range takes a modular approach to lighting control and is unique because it is a fully interchangeable plug-and-play system, can allow a master luminaire to be a slave, or a microwave sensor to become a presence motion detector quickly and easily.

Zumtobel’s super-efficient PANOS infinity Bluetooth recessed downlights illuminate the corridors, with four different reflector surface finishes, they provide glare control up to UGR 19 and efficiency of more than 100 lm/W, making them the perfect

choice for offices and communication areas. Lighting control is via a DALI signal so it can also be integrated into various control systems. The use of LED’s has provided improved energy savings and better colour rendition along with control of the working areas.

Simple to install, use and maintain, the IP66-rated Aquaforce Bluetooth has been utilised in the plant areas. This robust luminaire is built to resist ambient temperatures ranging from -20°C to 35°C, and its clever drip-edge design avoids dust depositing on the light output surface, so that any accumulation of dirt has minimal impact on performance.
