Shaun Donaldson, who works out of the Aston headquarters of the 130-year-old company, was named Mechanical Engineering Services Apprentice of the Year for the Midlands by JTL, a leading training provider for the building services industry, on the completion of his training. One of more than 1,500 apprentices in their final year of training with JTL, Shaun received a trophy and a cheque for £100 at the Jurys Inn Hotel in Hinckley - and is now in the running for the title of JTL Apprentice of the Year at the national awards to be held in London in October.
Having completed his NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing and Heating with the provider, Shaun is currently working in J S Wright’s prefabrication department, producing fully loaded heat interface unit backboards and other modular units for multi-million-pound apartment schemes.
Paul Walton, JTL Plumbing and Heating Training Officer, said: ‘’Shaun is an extremely committed, conscientious and polite student - and from my first session with him he instantly showed maturity beyond his years. “Due to his fantastic interpersonal skills, he’s someone his classmates often go to for help and advice. This has made him very popular amongst his peers and helped him to achieve his Level 2 NVQ.”

Siemens Digital Industries’ #TechTalks webinars support customers during Covid19
iemens Digital Industries is running daily ‘#TechTalks’ during Covid-19 to help clients get the most from Siemens products and solutions, maximise uptime, save energy and manage their systems remotely. The 45-minute interactive webinars focus on a range of topics covering technologies in manufacturing. Each bitesize talk is run twice daily and includes a question-and- answer session. The webinars are then available to watch on demand. The number of engineers and technicians logging in for each webinar has doubled to almost 200 since its launch in April. It was the Covid-19 lockdown and the work-from-home situation that prompted Siemens Digital Industries to launch the initiative where manufacturing companies and employees are adapting and responding to the new normal.
S
John Richards, Business Development Executive at Siemens Digital Industries, said, “Our goal is to attract a following for #TechTalks webinars, with the next phase offering bigger and more refined content. Whilst the lockdown may ease, the ‘new normal’ may require a new sales approach and webinars, exhibitions and conferences delivered virtually may be here for a while longer.”
The sessions are designed to help Siemens’ customers and those interested in Siemens products and services to see what is possible and to get the most out of the solutions. “Client feedback has been tremendous and has encouraged us to enhance the offering,” added Richards. “We look forward to scaling up and upgrading this model in an effort to reach out and support our customers during this pandemic.” The webinars run from Monday to Friday with topics at 9am and 2pm and 10am and 3pm UK time.
