EDITOR’S COMMENT & CONTENTS Stepping into the light
the Covid-19 tunnel, we are all surely wondering the same thing… What will the landscape of the future look like?
A
Speculation has been flying around since mid-lockdown about what the “new normal” might entail and what it could mean for all aspects of life, from industry and work to grocery shopping and recreational activity.
Lockdown has taught society a lot about what it needs and what it might be able to live
s we step, blinking frantically, into the light at the end of
without, but it has also taught us what we would really miss. It’s offered the opportunity for a look at the bigger issues that have been partially-ignored undercurrents for decades, supressed by an old fashioned day-to-day routine which now feels like a shock to the system at the thought of going back. As I’ve said before, change is the biggest chance for opportunity and while the changes that are bound to take place could never shake the foundations of the building services industry, they will open windows for new ways of thinking about the importance of health, personal space,
connections and ways to protect the environment that was so eager to return to its rightful patterns once humans were sensibly out of the way. Of course, we all look forward to the return of the big meetings and showcases of the latest technologies that our industry is so good at hosting, alongside the new ways of thinking and interacting that this
extraordinary experience has inspired.
